Rancho Murieta is a guard-gated private community in Sacramento County, California The population was 4,193 at the 2000 census and is estimated to have a population of 6,000 in 2009. It is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, about 25 miles east of Sacramento. Rancho Murieta is about 3,500 acres full of wildlife, open space, and several lakes.
Rancho Murieta consists of two 18 hole championship golf courses. These courses offer some of the best golf in Northern California. Rancho Murieta is in the Elk Grove School District. Rancho Murieta started in the early 1970’s as a retirement community, but the demographics have drastically changed from those early days.
