Default A Cure For The Hiccups

I swear, I have tried about 50 remedies and none have worked until yesterday. Last night I was with a friend who developed the hiccups. The waitress put a concoction together which immediately (and I mean immediately) stopped the hiccups. She mixed it up in front of us. I paid her $10 for the recipe. Here it is:

One lemon wedge. (1/8th of a lemon.)
A sprinkle of sugar
4 dashes of Angostura Aromatic Bitters.

Put the lemon wedge in a cup. Throw in the sugar and bitters. Cover and shake. Then bite the wedge. Your hiccups will go away.

You can get the Angostura at Beverages And More. It is also good for stomach aches when mixed with 7up.

What's always worked for me is to put about a teaspoon of sugar in my mouth then slowly sip and swallow water. Worked since I was a kid and still does.

Beth B I tried the sugar a long time ago and it didn't work. If it works for you that's great. The lady told me that the sugar and the bitters combined shock your system out of the hiccups.

A shot of Bushmill's. Strictly for medicinal purposes, of course.

A woman went to the doctor's office. She was seen by one of the new doctors, but after about four minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained. He had her sit down and relax in another room.

The older doctor marched back to the first and demanded, "What's the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was PREGNANT?"

The new doctor smiled smugly as he continued to write on his clipboard.

"Cured her hiccups though, didn't it?"

BethB, have you tried the remedy? They are actually selling the bitters at the plaza now.

Yes, as I posted in June your remedy worked great. Thankfully I haven't had the hiccups since but hopefully I'll remember to look up the cure here

Oh and thanks for letting me know its at the plaza, I may look for that.
