Default What are you reading?

Trying some pulp horror/science fiction at the moment. If any of you read 2000AD you may recognise the names Simon Spurrier and Al Ewing who write for it. Abaddon Books is a (I think Rebellion owned) book label for apparently newish authors focusing on the pulp market. I used to love old US pulp science fiction (which includes Asimov's short stories as a fine example. Fred Pohl is another famous name rising out of this market, as is Philip K Dick) so thought I would give a couple of them a go (El Sombra by Al Ewing and The Culled by Si Spurrier).

Racing Through Paradise, A Pacific Passage: William Buckley, JR.
Little, Brown & Co., 1987

"This book in no way suggests typical yacht racing.
WFB's exhuberent superfluous didactic verbosity reveals his penchant for less used words. His writing digresses from the first sentence in a paragraph. His paragraphs digress from the announced chapter heading.
However, his writing is intimate conversational about his life and varied interests both in and outside of yachting.
If you enjoyed his TV conversations, you will enjoy this printed visit with his great mind and clever wit."

I'm reading another James Patterson book, "Step on a Crack." As usual, a quick and easy read with a good storyline.

My neighbor loaned me "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. Haven't started it yet, but will soon.

FYI - I dropped off some decent summer reading at at the paperback exchange in the RMA building last week. I've got a few more this week. We could use an influx of new choices IMHO. hint hint

Just recently finished: "Beautiful Boy" by David Sheff, then "Tweak" by Nic Sheff. Powerful, devastating and hopeful stories about addiction and recovery.
