Good Sushi Restaurant

Can anyone recommend some good local sushi restaurants? We have never had sushi and we have some people coming in town that love it. We thought we would give it a try, but we don't know where to go.

Ichi Maki on Folsom Blvd just east of Sunrise. Good stuff, good service, close.

Nishiki @ 16th & P (downtown Sac) will always be be my favorite. Go in and say hi to Tony the bartender (He was instrumental in the courtship between the now-Mr. Haute and myself.)

I too can recommend Ichi Maki. We also go to Mikuni's and highly recommend both restaurants.

great to see these rec's. We too love Mikuni. We used to be Mikuni nuts, but now we can't afford sushi anymore--not on a regular basis anyway!
We will have to try some of these others. My one complaint about Mikuni is the noise levels.

Mikuni is our favorite! Everything is tasty and completely unique so we always try something new every time we go. Great fun!

I lived in Japan for 10 years, my wife is Japanese so for our money the best Japanese Sushi is served at Akebono which is located on Folsom-Auburn Rd and Douglas Blvd. Note I said Japanese sushi.....

We have been to the afore mentioned places and they are OK, but slanted toward American tastes....if your fiends enjoy real sushi takr them to Akebono. Its a bit of a drive but worth it.

I read the thread title and the first thing that came to mind was, is there such a thing? Not a big fan, but the best sushi restaurants are the ones that serve alternate items besides just sushi. That way if someone in the party isn't a big fan, you have other options.

Do any of you ever get sick? The sight of it turns my tum. You know some raw fish have worms, if it is not truly fresh.

That's why I'm being cremated, no worms are going to have a picnic off me! Hubby does not venture far from what he knows; he does enjoy seared whatever. Is it Tuna or something like it ? He keeps trying to push a mouthful down me. When I see anything that pink, I do not eat it.

Now and then I like a small portion of well done beef...always tell the waiter I don't want it mooing thank you, when they ask how would you like it done.
