Default Update on the new cres

At last night's Board of Education meeting the Board certified the Final Environmental Impact Report, adopted a Mitigation Monitoring Program and a Statement of Overriding Concerns for the new CRES building project, and, best of all, authorized the administration to receive bids for the project. What this all means is that the site is certified as buildable. The mitigations required by all local, state, and federal agencies are in place. The project has a green light to move to bid. The bid climate is excellent right now as contractors look for work so we do not anticipate a problem with over-bidding. The District has the money set aside from its bond sale so that we are not dependent upon the State program for immediate reimbursement of their share of the costs. Given the State freeze on all building projects we will advance their portion of the costs and then seek reimbursement when the freeze ends. So the bottom line is that, finally, it looks like the new CRES will get underway. The last remaining issue is the Army Corp permits but we have been assured that those will be issued by the end of May so that we may begin moving dirt right after school ends in June. Get ready for some major inconveniences along Jackson Highway but by working together we can survive this. CRES students will have one of the most beautiful and modern elementary campuses in northern California.

That sounds like good news for not only the Children but for the Community as a whole.

Just as long as The California Tiger Salamander is well taken care of, I am happy.

We've heard a similar status report before.

Don't set my place just yet.

Having heard all the predictions of a new school since the '80s, I can certainly relate to the healthy skepticism. But it really does look like this process is, for the first time, about to pass the point of no return.

My understanding is that last night the school board officially passed a resolution to purchase the property and authorize acceptance of the grant deed for the New Cosumnes Elementary School Site.
