This is a discussion on CRES Groundbreaking within the Schools and RM Youth forum, part of the Local & Regional Topics category; Save the date! Monday, June 15 @ 10am. I will be there! . . .
You guys are funny. Yes, I saw Martha's post. But Martha has seen the hot-cha-cha from Elk Grove School District for a long time. Now they are actually going forward (my fingers are crossed) after, what, 5 attempts at it?
We have the best teachers, the best parents and the best students in the whole dang district! This should have happened long ago. And I am not being critical of the progress now. But we have excelled out here while most of the rest of EGUSD has floundered. IT'S ABOUT TIME!
In 1998 when I moved in, and before my son was born, there was talk of this fabulous school. In 2009 there is groundbreaking. Congrats EGUSD for getting it right this time. Looks like my little guy may be the first graduating class in the new school.

LOL, Max. I kid Martha 'cause I've seen the hot-cha-cha longer than her.
Luke, Jr. started Kindergarten at CRES in 1998. That was so long ago now Mrs. Ehlers was principal. Luke, Jr. is now going into his junior year. If I understand right, its going to be 2 years before the new CRES opens. That means Luke, Jr. will graduate high school before the new school opens. Such is life. Just glad to see a new school built.
I was on the campus about a month ago - first time I had been there since Luke, Jr. graduated from 6th grade. it brought back memories of back-to- school nights, book fairs, harvest festivals, oral language fairs, mission projects, pinewood derbies, relocation of his 2nd grade class to the main building because of mold in his classroom, the adding of trailers to accommodate the growing population (there were less than 200 students when he started), the teachers he had -- Mrs. Scott, Ms. Miller-Chamberlain, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Zarecky, Ms. Anderson, Mr. Nelson, Ms. Prewett, and Ms. Ballard, and the principals, Mrs. Ehlers, Mr. Sompayrac and Mr. Anderson. It is the Little School That Could.

Max, as you know Martha and I are friends as well. You also know she has brought the "crow eating" upon herself. I love the fact that you're trying to defend her though, but this time she got it wrong. Sorry Martha, but the plates of crow are lining up. LOL If the new school opens in 2 years my boy will be in the first class to graduate, it is too bad that he will only get to enjoy the new campus for 1 year. But I'm happy and excited for all the kids in the future who will get to enjoy a first class school. Long over due!

It will take about 18 months to complete the whole campus, but the students are slated to occupy the new building Fall 2010. The whole campus is to be complete by 11-26-10.
Just thought of this, do you know what would be really cool? A time lapse camera facing the construction site to show the transition from old CRES to new CRES.
Anyone know how to do something like that?
