Default Car break ins again at CRES today

Be sure to not leave valuables in your vehicle (especially visible) while your car is parked at CRES and to lock your doors. There were 2 vehicles burglarized at CRES today - one in front of the office and the other along Jackson. It is far too easy for a thief to grab and be down Jackson before anyone realizes it.

Easy get away, but still a bold location to steal something. Thanks for the heads up.

I disagree. It is an ideal location to burglarize a vehicle, especially along Jackson or in the parking lot. Minimal observation yet, a person in the lot is not enough to arose suspicion. Lots of unlocked cars make it even easier.

In a prior life I did physical security consulting. Church and school parking lots are ideal for burglary. Most have no surveillance and have determined times where there is little traffic traffic in the lot while car owners are focused on other matter. In addition to this, consider yourself at CRES, you are likely preoccupied w/dropping little Johhny or SuzyQ off or dashing in to drop off their forgotten lunch while leaving your vehicle running and purse/etc easily available. Prime targets of opportunity...

Good reminder though, I am guilty of the above myself...

Seems too wide open, but that goes to show you I would not make a very good thief.

You are absolutely correct Michael...crimes of opportunity are the easiest targets. In Rancho Cordova, they are having a rash of theives stealing catalic converters off of cars...they caught one guy with 16 of them in the back of his pickup truck....It takes only a few minutes to get them off the cars, from what I hear.......certainly when a mom is dropping a child off at school it is easy to forget to lock the car...they perhaps should have the custodian check outside the front doors of the school more often...and maybe some cameras outside??

You would be amazed at how brazen experienced criminals - or a druggie - can be. They just don't seem to have the circuits you and I have that not only make the act itself unthinkable but also the one that makes the idea of taking a risk like that in broad daylight terrifying.

we better start a new site location search committee...this is obviously no place for a school.

Can't bring a school in the gates either...crime is running rampant.

hmmm...

(no offense intended to the victims of the crime...that really does stink to high heaven)

I believe the new school layout w/ its set backs and driveway into the campus will be a decent deterrent and take away the expedient egress that is enjoyed now.

Sidenote - I just returned from riding my motorcycle into RM for a lunch appointment. I pulled over to spot check the 6 vehicles parked on Jackson. 4 were unlocked and of those 2 had items worth stealing in them visible. On my way into RM I also saw the minivan that was apparently burglarized in front of the school office. Seems they were cleaning up broken glass. Given that location and the broken glass, I do agree with Matt as to the brazen nature. the unlocked ones on Jackson however, just low hanging fruit for the picking...

for the record (if one is kept) I was joking quite a bit about the need for a new school site
