Default anti-drug meeting follow-up

I'm just curious. At the anti-drug meeting there were several requests made of various parts of csd, ssd, etc. What kind of follow-up to that has been planned or is ongoing?

I didnt see anything resulting from the CSD meeting but did watch Jerry Smith give a good presentation to the board on channel 5. To which the board I might add immeadiately took up the issue of tree planting and never commented on Jerrys presentation. Its as if he was like one of those junior Congressmen making a speach to an empty House in the middle of the night.

Not sure about Jerry's efforts. I am trying to work on something, but it's still in the planning stages.

I have no idea why I'm feelng so charitable today, but.....

Neither board had anything before them as an action item. Jerry made a presentation. This is a great way to get an issue some visibility and get a process rolling, but there's nothing a Board can do that night because they don't have an agendized action item.

Some of the things Jerry urged are doable, others maybe doable, others maybe not doable at all. Some get into really sticky and potentially expensive questions such as arrest authority, which I'd urge be looked into very closely and some answers forthcoming, but that IS a sticky mess and nothing will likely come of it real fast. I did hear Paul Gumbinger speak at last week's RMA BOD meeting about investigating expanded security camera coverage, which was one of Jerry's suggestions. I haven't talked to any directors about it yet but I'd bet some are contemplating a curfew rule of RMA's own and maybe massaging the park closure rules.

NOTHING happens fast around here, usually, even when the honchos want it to. I think it far too soon to assume either board is just blowing the whole thing off. I think some responsive things will likely occur, but not overnight, probably not for a few months. With 30-day public meeting requirements that's just sorta the way it is. Unless we want the honchos to do a backroom huddle at the 19th hole tonight, send up a puff of white smoke and announce their irrevocable decree, that is....

Seems to me that with CSD, the typical response is to talk about it for one meeting, at most two, and by then the community will forget about it?

I know that the presentation was made to the full board, but I also know that the letter was on the agenda for discussion at the security meeting:
http://www.ranchomurietacsd.com/Pack...%209-24-07.pdf

I also know that we discussed it a bit on this forum:
http://www.ranchomurietaonline.com/f...-t386.195.html

I'm curious if the security committee discussed it at least as much as we did? I guess we'll find out next month what they decide to send to the board.

You are right that issues will sometimes fall off the radar screen of not persistently brought up along by a director or pesky member.

I think we have to hunker down for the long haul. We need to anyway if we are going to address illegal drug use and, hopefully, how to help our kids. Mathew, I'm very interested in what you are planning. I want to help if you need it. I've been hunting for "canned" anti drug programs that might fit our community. I think the most effective approach is probably a three tier plan. More and better communication with kids (positive), information and prevention (maybe some guest speaker events for teens etc..) and
a no illegal drug use action plan. In my mind, this is more about supporting our kids. Overall, there are very few that are using illegal drugs but it is impacting all of us. I think if we support the 90 plus percent in making good choices while we address the problem we will be on track. Lisa T, thank you for bringing this very important topic up again.
