Nevertheless, Luke, Jr. says that any USB wireless G or B adapter will work. Don't be snookered into buying the Microsoft adapter that is marked up.

If you can't figure it out, I'm sure Luke, Jr. can be coaxed into coming over to your house at some point to help out.
Ok, thanks Luke and Luke Jr.. I might need help. I gave it a go, but I have no idea what the settings are that they are asking for.

If the adapter you had was used to create a wireless connection to your PC it will not work. From the Wiki for XBOX360 Accessories:
Wireless Network Adapter

Wireless adapter settings
The official Wi-Fi adapter is connected to the Xbox 360 through one of its USB ports. It supports 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g connections, with encryption mechanisms limited to 'WEP' and 'WPA'. There is an inactive 'WPA2' option in the Wireless Security Options, but Microsoft's plans regarding this feature are unknown.

Functionality equivalent to the adapters can be achieved with different third-party solutions, which are connected through the ethernet port and recognized by the Xbox 360 as a wired connection. It is also possible to connect an Xbox 360 to internet through another system's connection if it has it shared.

Using an official or third-party wireless bridge the console can automatically detect and link up with other Xbox 360 consoles that are within range and form an ad hoc network.

There are Routers that can be turned into Wireless Bridges and articles on how to do this. I suggest looking at the Fry's Ad tomorrow and look for a Bridge or a router that can do DD-WRT. This is a firmware that turns a $30 router into multiple hundred dollar piece of hardware, one of the features, Bridge.
