Default DVD play and old TV

OK I will take you up on your offer of free help.

I bought a new DVD player for an extra TV. I have one in my family room and bedroom that hooked up just fine to the TV. This time the TV only has the screw on connection. The others all had the thre cables red, white, and yellow. Is there some doohicky I can buy to convert my DVD play to work on the screw in plug? The DVD player says it has composite, component, and HDMI whatever that means.

Ouch. That old TV has no idea what any of those three signal types is. HDMI is the latest thing, for connecting to HDTVs.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you need a gizmo like this one or something close to it to translate the composite video (the familiar red, white, yellow type setup VCRs and TVS used for years) to an RF (old school cable/antenna) coax cable connection such as you have on the old TV. Like early VCRs, it broadcasts on ch. 3 or 4 when it's on, you can hook your cable from the wall into it on the input side, and when it and your DVD player are switched off it should just pass thru the plain old cable signal from the wall to the TV as if it's not in the way.

RadioShack.com - Home Entertainment: Accessories: Video accessories: Converters: RF Modulator

But before you rush out to buy one, let's wait to see if the other much more tech-savvy guys around here say I'm all wet. Guys?

Wilbur you are correct. I have an RF Modulator on my daughter's TV for this exact purpose.
