By and large, we choose the club, but for a really special occasion, can't beat Hawk's on Douglas Blvd. in Granite Bay. Prices similar to Taste--also very good, but men generally don't like paying, as hubby puts it, "entree prices for appetizer portions." At Hawk's portions a bit more "manly."
We used to love China Palace, but something has changed with new owners and cooks--their war wonton used to be the best around. The Chinese Place in Sheldon, next to Silva's, is very good, as is Silva's. The Buena Vista in Jackson Valley (out towards Lake Camanche) serves full dinners and the chef came from the Woodbridge Inn in Lodi. Good portions at equitable prices.
I understand Cafe Via d'Oro in sutter Creek has a great Sunday bruch, but we haven't yet tried it.
Haven't been to Stonehouse yet...hear to many negative things...however for chinese food, we go to Happy Gardens which is next to Silva's on Grant Line Rd. Portions very good and food is really tastie....I agree, something has happened to our china palace...we are going to try "Taste" as we have been hearing good things about them....

Thumbs up Re: Local Favorites

I cannot imagine a better place than Stonehouse. Granted I go there a lot! I love the fried green beans, I love the steak pizza, I love the Thai pizza, I love the calamari, I love the fried ravioli...last night I had the most delicious mushroom soup! I am getting fat just writing this!!!! My sons are at college, I have family in Seattle and here....they all want to go to Stonehouse. I have dined all over the US and a bit of Europe, Canada and Mexico...Stonehouse is one of my top places to eat! Yes, the service is a bit uneven but I l like all the folks who work there. I have worked in food service, it is hard work! I appreciate what people do for me! The waitperson does not have control of what comes out of the kitchen always. If you do not like it send it back, they are always willing help you! If you do not ask it will not happen...they are not mind readers! I have to admit that family and I have had less than wonderful experiences at other public RM restaurants...including illness...so we do not go to them! I only go to the Club, Stonehouse, Marshates and Plaza Foods. We need to support our local GOOD businesses. I like to drive to Plymouth for "Incahoots".(new menu!) I am looking forward to trying "Taste"!

I don't think they have the typical pizzas you might find at Round Table. Their pizzas are more like California Pizza Kitchen.

So on the topic of local businesses, what about the gift shop, the post office, bank, copy place, salons, etc etc? Anyone have any good (or bad experiences?)

I have one, I have always liked the gift shop, cutest things, and good prices i'd say. I usually go in there with my son, and the owner treats him really nicely! BUT recently my husband was in there with my son, and the owner treated them horribly.. It was very odd. Not sure I'll be going back there again, and what a shame!

On the other hand, Kerry in the post office is soooo nice! He always calls me by name, and i LOVE that

How did they treat your husband 'horribly'? Over charged? Yelled at him? They are personal friends and I am sure they would like to know.

Ive always been treated nicely in From the Heart. My wife and I also frequent Murieta Salon with Diana and Michele for hair and nail work. The Hardware store is great, the cleaners are kind and convenient, I havent been into the shipping place since they changed hands and the Mexican place makes great food and good margaritas. We have money in El Dorado because its convenient. The Chinese place is good but their service is poor at times. All and all I give the plaza an 80 on the 100 scale. The downside is our post office closes too early and isnt convenient at tax times.

Are you always so rude in real life? I hope not. Anyway, I don't feel the need to go into detail really. AND I did mention that she has always treated ME nicely.

my sincerest apologies for being so rude. May I please retract the question? I thought maybe it was a way to get resolution and help them improve their customer service. May God bless you and may you find it in your heart to forgive me for upsetting you so. I will refrain from posting in the future.
