Default Water on the South Course

Did you golfers know that they are continuing to run the sprinklers on the South course. If it seems unusually wet to you, as it does me, that is the reason. Management say they need to get rid of irrigation water. The course is close to unplayable in many areas. I wonder how long this is going to continue.

Call it pet peeve of mine but wasting water out here has to stop whether its by residences, the RMA or the CC. We all want lush green yards and fairways but watering in the winter after our recent is such a waste. My yard has not been watered in over 6 weeks and still is saturated from the rains.

It's better than the fines that would be paid if the club does not get rid of the water.

It has nothing to do with green lawns.

Hmm. From what I understand didnt we work out some sort of a deal with the Van Vlecks or was that just CSD?

Is it the CC policy to use irrigation as a form of evaporation?

If so I can see that as a short term solution but increased storage may be in order?

What they're "wasting" is the wastewater they got in trouble for not "wasting" enough of. They may still be working on getting rid of the surplus that built up and the water cops were insisting they burn off.

I'm not sure, but I suspect the infrastructure for the Van Vleck irrigation may not be in place yet. Consummation of the funding deal with the developers stalled out for quite awhile and I'm not sure whether the $$ has actually materialized, but I do know that the negotiations dragged out well beyond the date the "terms sheet" (tentative agreement) specified.

Fair enough. Is this strictly wastewater from CC facilities or runoff from same?

The shortsighted original design of the community is that ALL wastewater generated by the entire community would be disposed of by golf course irrigation. When the water quality cops got exercised by the spillage out of Bass Lake and the two (?) water hazards used as holding tanks they insisted the levels in those be reduced during the wet season, which meant holding more in the holding tanks at CSD, but then they got exercised about there not being enough "freeboard" (remaining capacity) in the holding tanks at the CSD plant, and ordered CSD to get rid of a bunch of it, which they worked at all last year to bring the number down and avoid further fines. Since Ed Crouse can only drink so much of the stuff, and since the work to expand Bass Lake's capacity isn't completed yet, it has to go somewhere, so I am guessing they are irrigating the course during non-rainy periods to get rid of as much as they can to avoid a repetition of the accumulation --> fine cycle.

Now perhaps someone who actually knows the facts will set me straight?

The best explanation I have heard. Is there a plan then to actuall expand Bass Lake by dredging or expanding?

Anyone...

Anyone....

Yes there is a plan being negotiated. Bass Lake is another complicated tangle because RMA owns the lake and the Club owns the water.

Now thats rich...... We own the lake or the land under which the lake resides but the CC owns the water.....

HMM

Its sort of like mineral rights in reverse. Im surprized we arent being fined for allowing their water to contaminate the river.
