question about the icons

Matthew, for some reason, when I want to insert one of the cute faces in my message, I get words and symbals, not the picture. Why is that? I will show you. Help!

Okay, obviously it shows up after you post it, don't botter answering me, this is a DUH, I saw it for myself!
