Default Another change to keep things productive

I have made a couple of changes to keep things productive around here. Some discussions can get heated and that's okay, however it does turn some people off and I want this to be a place for everyone (as much as possible)

As most of you know I created the "politics and religion area" and allowed you to hide that area. I think there is also a need to have an area for threads that become heated and do not relate to politics or religion. I called this forum "The Ring". You will have more room to argue/debate/discuss topics than in other areas of the site.

I also decreased the visibility of both the politics & religion forum as well as the ring forum. No one will see either of these two forums unless they join a group. The group is called "RMO Seasoned Member". You can join groups here:

http://www.murietaonline.com/forum/p...editusergroups

Any forum member can join this group so it is open to everyone. Since you need to proactively join this group I hope this will help those that do not want to see/participate in the more heated discussions.

My plan is if a thread become heated it will be moved to the ring. All national politics and religion discussion should only be started in the politics and religion forum.

Let me know if you have any questions or issues joining the public group. As always your feedback is welcome.

It's a good idea. Since it's more private I have a few comments for Jack.

Those who elect not to join that group may well live happier and more productive lives as a result.

Alas, I, of course, could not resist....

Matthew, I sure hope this doesn't mean the level of "nastiness" toward one another will be allowed to increase. . .there is so much going on in the world, our world, that bickering over relatively innocuous issues is not fruitful. Instead of beaching, go to the source (a reliable one) and get the answers to the questions you have posed and quit zooming in on whomever you're most p-o'ed at!
Happy holidays to all!

No not at all. In the political & religion forum and The Ring forum there will be more leeway given, but that does not mean we can attack each other. I just am trying to give those that want to aggressively debate issues a place to do it, while at the same time not subjecting everyone to our conversations.

I appreciate a vigorous debate, but I have had some complaints that they don't like reading such discussions. I know these folks could simply not read the discussions, but I understand that they may not want to even read a portion of the discussion to determine if they don't want to read any further. I am trying to give them tools to make the site what they want it to be.

I am also not willing to silence anyone that wants to debate issues, even when those are heated debates. I have edited/deleted very few posts and I don't like doing it, but I will if needed.
