Health conscious parents probably should have started us off young smoking L&M's, too. After all, they were "Just what the doctor ordered!"

Hey for all those fans of Coke, Costco on Bidwell is selling Mexican Coke now. Thats the real OLD COKE recipe with cane sugar instead of HFC syrup as the sweetner.

I posted several months ago about stevia but would like to raise eyebrows about the consumer industry overusage of HFCS for sweetening everything. Could this overuse be contributing to our obese culture? Just a paranoid thought at the end of a long day of typing.

I totally agree with you DB!!!!! Hurray!! Sugar is the root of all evils! When I cut out most refined sugar, my weight went down. I believe the reason that stevia was never okayed is because of the huge sugar lobby. The other reason I believe there is lots of obesity, is because people still eat lots of pasta, rice, white bread, and potatoes. Cattle are fed complex carbs when they need to be fattened up, and that is what humans have done as well. I went on the Zone diet in 1994, and although I've become less rigid, I still try to keep my complex carbs to a minimum. I eat a lot of green veggies in stead of potatoes for an example. Anyway, enough of me.

Sugar from cane or beets I dont think is the problem its the High Fructose Corn Syrup that is used for practically everything sweetened that I suspect is a problem that is politically protected. I recently bought a case of coke at Costco made in Mexico with good old fashioned sugar. Its the old coke formula before the dreadful change that happened in 1986. It was like drinking water in the desert!..... Stevia I have on order and intend on using up our equal supply and start using that instead. Now I qualify this that I have no proof of the HFCS issue or Equal it just makes sense that this stuff is all artificial and I suspect fools the body in ways we dont quite understand.

When I was a child, my Dad had a serious Pepsi habit. To keep us from nagging him for some of his Pepsi he always told us it would "stunt our growth." The very idea of stunting my growth scared me so much that I
grew up ordering root beer when we went out and would never touch his Pepsi at home. I'm a female that made it to 5 foot 10 1/2. Maybe he was right?

Gees, maybe that was my problem, I drank too many cokes!! Actually, in my family, my mother was the sugar police way before it was known what an issue it was. We almost never had soda, so when I moved out I went crazy, and drank it like a drunken sailor! Since I was in my early forties, I stopped soda all together, and pretty much just drink plain old tap water. Gaining weight all has to do with the Glycemic Index, and how fast your liver processes sugar. I only learned all this technical stuff from reading the "Zone" books by Barry Sears.
