This day, 22 years ago, the Challenger exploded soon after takeoff.

I remember the day, clearly, I remember seeing it on TV, and I remember Regan doing the national 'press talk / condolences', but I don't remember where I was at the time of launch. I do remember seeing it though. Likely in school. I was in high school at the time.

Deep in the Arizona desert. Maybe the most shocking news I had heard at the national level.

Also deep in the Arizona Desert, NW of Wickenberg. We didn't hear about it for 3 days (no communication in those days) but were shocked when we found out.

i was in the car with the radio on listening to the blast off when it happened, on my way to the gym in citrus heights. i hurrily park the car and ran inside to watch. no work out that day. than went home to watch everything else on tv.

In the Army on field manuevers at White Sands Missile Range. We heard about it over our FM field radios and immediately turned on our civilian radios to hear the news reports. We didn't get back to our barracks for about a week and went straight to a TV to see what happened. By that time no one was showing the video anymore and I think it was about a day later we finally saw the explosion on TV.

Space exploration is worth it and they all new the risks. I'd go in a heartbeat.
