Default What's your opinion?

My sister has a son, he's a year and six months old. My sister usually sends him to daycare with milk and juice to drink. She recently dropped him off at daycare and was told the the health department would not allow them to serve him juice anymore because of the obesity epidemic. Even if the parent brings the juice, they are to dump it out and give the child water. I personally don't like the government telling what we can feed our children. Educate the parents, but do not be a dictatorship! All of you parents out there, what's your opinion? Is this crossing the line?

Juice vs. Water problem solved, looks like the decision might be made for Mom.

Perhaps because the juice has lots of sugar in it?? I have heard that. The milk is the most important for the child and I think they can do without the juice.....JMHO

Possibly, but is it the government's job to make that decision for the parent?

A couple of years ago the Folsom district sent home a letter that said my son was not allowed to bring soda to school. Up until that point my son had never brought a soda to school. For the next week my son brought a soda every day. I also had a nice long chat with the district.

What your daycare operator is telling you seems extremely odd since the USDA runs a subsidized snack program which includes fruit juice in the package.

No of course not...but if the school won't let the child have the juice there, mom can always give it to him/her at home. If we really think about it, the government makes decisions for us every day of our life...and tells us what we have to do and not do...and the government makes many decisions for us regarding what we can and cannot do with and for our children....

That is interesting. I think I sense a rebellion coming!

Agreed. However, there are plenty of things worse than juice! Plus, if we sit back and except the government and it ever growing control over our choices we will end up with no freedom left whatsoever. First it's not giving you child juice at daycare and then they will be telling us what career to have and how many children we should have....wait...I think I just described China, oops!
