I just have to take a minute to appreciate RMO - thanks Matt. The forum - and all the thoughtful posters - give me a chance to think about things beyond the day in day out.
I was just romancing the idea of consumer tax again. I thought it might be a really good idea until I realized (thanks to Matt's and Max's point) that we are living a mini version of it right now. Everybody who drives is paying the price at the pump so, where do the taxes go? The whole thing goes back to responsible management which brings me back to local control which complicates the consumer tax and hefty gas tax realities.
And to Mama's original post - Why Starbucks do you think?

Reducing taxes now on gas is not going to do much in the way of relief but it certainly will take money away from folks who design and build roads. That's me.
That definetely lends to some explanation as to why California has some of the worst highways and roads in the entire country.
That was teasing, but the road situation is no joke.

Agreed, now is a good time to release some money to build our roads and infrastructure. This would certainly help civil engineers and general engineering contractors who were previously working on residential developments.
