Smile Olympics 2008

Yes I'm back for a while...health issues you know.

Although I am SO proud of Phelps and his lack of ego, I must make mention of a few others.

My heart was full when one chap I believe took Bronze for Tonga; the first medal for their country ever! Can you imagine his pride along how it elavated his country? That was brilliant; more coverage I believe is required of the underdogs, more so than the favorites.

As you know I am from GB; the last I heard they were in fourth place as far as the medal count. This is astounding for such a small country. Maybe they are shaping up for when it is their turn to host the event in 2012. Can't imagine how they will ever top China for the opening event, which we paid for with their goods. *S*

I envision the Queen hobbling around on her solid gold Zimmer (walker) for about an hour administrating the royal wave. There may be Morris Dancing and a few football holigans to top things off; don't expect much though. I shall be watching with one eye closed.

Hope you all are well, and keeping your heads above water.

Icini good to have you back. I wondered where you were. Yes, I am looking forward to London in 2012.

Phelps' achievement was fantastic. Most people don't realize most of the swimmers from other countries come to train in the United States. Usually in college. Australia is an exception but we are the gold standard for swimming in the world.

Actually GB is in 5th in the medal count which is outstanding. France isn't too far behiond though.

It looks like GB is a powerhouse in cycling. I didn't know that. Did you know that Icini?

Anyway, remember that you are in the States so make sure you cheer for the USA, unless of course they are competing against GB. Take care of yourself.

Yes I knew about the cycling, hubby once competed in time trials for the RAF. For the unintiated that means Real Air Force *S* He has a very slow heart rate (sometimes I get the mirror out) His inspration was established by another at age 13; cycling has always been his passion. He has the ability to go long distances; once I nearly called 911 years ago as he was gone five hours! Anyone want to buy a bike? He has 8! He loves it when he overtakes these young chaps, then they see he is an old fart! His body belies his age, tall and lean, until they see the grey hair then they peddle faster. Our first date included a bike on the back seat; kinky methinks. until he told me he was in a 6:am race.

You are right in saying most now train in the USA. I am baffled how many are born somewhere else and represent the USA or another country. Unless they have dual citenship; how can that be?

These days the excitement of it all is not what it used to be. I remember many years ago ( In England ) when a chap called David Wilkie won a gold medal for GB in swimming. Hubby thought my heart was about to explode as he could here it beating from across the room. Those were the days before drug enhancment.

Hope all of you are well and keeping your peckers up! Ok...for you dirty minded yanks it means....keep your chin up! Check it out!
