Default Vandals "punch" Monet

I just read that a group of vandals broke into the Orsay in Paris and punched a big hole right in the middle of a treasured Monet painting! I don't know why exactly but this act just fills me with despair.

I just don't know what to say...too many thoughts going thru my mind.... What's this world coming to? There doesn't seem to be respect for anything anymore.

How do you know they were "young"? I don't remember reading ages in the article. Or, are you just making the statement that does not related to the Monet punching?

CNN reported "drunken youths." Which is a relief, I was afraid they might be smoking pot

What I couldn't understand, not having read any details, is how their security could be so weak. Drunk kids could break in

Oh, I must have missed the "drunken youths", sorry Mama Mia.

That is a good question, Wilbur. They are housing some of the most valuable artwork in the world and "drunken youth" are able to break in?!? Don't buy that security system for your home!

Age is relative. To me, young could mean anyone under 40. While I'm 49, that's not much of an age difference I realize but I do recall when I started working at 18 I had good work ethics instilled in me. I knew what was right and what was wrong and what was expected of me at the job. By the time I was about 38 I watched the younger generation (20's to 30's) coming in to work and they could care less about doing their job correctly and abused the hours they were suppose to work.

Thanks Wilbur, thats where I saw the story, on CNN. I try to be V-E-R-Y careful on this site to be sure what I say it what I know.....I don't want to start any controversy about what is said and what is known....Beth, you are correct about your observations of the younger working folks, I have seen this trend also. Again I believe it comes from their teachings at home....I have worked since I was 16 yrs. old and learned at a very early age about the responsibilities of holding down a job and all that went with it. If you are being relied on, then be responsible enough to fulfill your obligations to your employer. I also told my kids, remember you asked for the job and you now have to prove you can do it. If you don't carry your load, someone else has to pick up the slack and that makes for a very unhappy workplace.....If you don't have the answer to a question that a customer asks, simply say, give me your number and I will call you back with the answer...but don't go Uh Uh, gee, I don't know!!!! I get that alot when I call many business organizations...maybe no training, or no common sense, not sure what the answer is....

Apology accepted L L....

Excellent post Mama Mia! My current soapbox is that well meaning parents DON'T want their kids to work because they think the kid's focus needs to be on school. Or, they are shooting for better college app bling and they want their kids to work a fancy internship. It's a bad plan. Nothing builds character like having to be somewhere on time and working hard in a less than glamorous gig. Oh, and having a decent attitude about it.

RE: the Monet..sigh. A lot of very angry youth in France. Honestly, I think the two topics could be connected. When I was in France about 10 years ago they were dealing with a lot of economic and social issues related to their version of a welfare state and the fact that it was nearly impossible to fire anyone. I remember a politician saying that if they wanted to save their economy they would have to adopt a US type system. I was pretty surprised to hear that.

Thanks Ping....You are absolutely correct.....
Re: the Monet and France...having never been there I was not aware of France having those problems...I had heard from friends that traveled there, that it was a very dirty country...probably some parts of France I'm sure, like all places...Also, that the French really don't like us, just our money...I believe there are so many wonderful places in the United States to visit and have no desire to go out of the country.....
