The President and Federal Reserve are still asleep behind the wheel...too little correction too late. When you have the fifth largest investment bank losing half its value in 30 minutes, after already getting pummeled for weeks on end, things aren't going well. When people with good credit can't get loans because banks lack liquidity the housing market melt down will look tame.

"Bear Stearns lost half of its value within 30 minutes of the market open, before clawing back a bit to be down 41 percent, or $23.51, at $33.49 by midday. The news rattled investors, pushing the Dow Jones industrial average down about 150 points."

This has been a pattern repeated multiple times since Bernake took the reins. Everytime there is a lowering of the rate, there is bad news to follow. The Fed knew this news from Bear Stearns was coming. What needs to happen is for the Treasury to stop cozying up to Wall Street for its own leadership.

Time to just buckle in and ride it out, and perhaps pols should quit trying to game the market and just tend to the non-culpable wounded.
