Its a tough nut to crack with the increases in people moving here, using their fireplaces and driving their vehicles daily. My wife and I have been discussing converting two of our fireplaces to gas next year as we can see the writing on the wall.... "firewood/durflame sales bans.... etc." Its inevitable after the voluntary ban fails.

You can't tell from the street when a pellet insert is running. They're smokeless.

Let's increase taxes on anything combustible. With the money we can purchase a few helicopters with infrared cameras. No one will get away with fires on non-burn days.

DB, you are making me laugh! Heaven help us if this were to happen!! Last year when there was a pellet shortage, we were wondering if it had been a mistake to take out our great stove and put in this pellet stove. So far there are plenty, and we are really enjoying the heat that it puts out. I'd better start listening for helicopters over my house!!

Hey when we moved to happy valley here my wife and I were both surprized at the number of times our house was circled by the SSD helos looking for another perp. Especially at 11 pm as we sleep with the door open all the time.....

I am not checking to see if I can use my fireplace or not.
I maybe have one fire a week via Duraflame.

For most folks whether to have a fire is a discretionary thing, a nice ambience, etc. But some of us depend on it for heat on the coldest nights when heat pumps aren't worth a bucket of warm spit.

Checking a website before lighting a fire is an unrealistic expectation. But they'll probably be putting the word out through the local media. If I hear it on TV or radio and it's a mild night, I'll probably play along. That's not too much to ask.

But on the coldest nights I'm not going to shiver all night while listening to my heat pump roar all night ineffectively blowing lukewarm air.
