Vandals struck again on the north

I think I’m getting the message. "Let’s just close our eyes and the problem of vandalism will go away. "We don’t have a crime problem!" "Real security can’t solve the problem!" Really? Vandalism is a crime and with effort it can be put down. Because we don’t have a crime problem let us just turn our collective heads while our neighbors are having to spend thousands of dollars repairing the damage done by a few misunderstood children. Children who’s only problem is living in a place the citizens are too lazy to take positive action and where their parents don’t give a dam what they do. It seems to be obvious to most of you there is no such thing as bad kids, they are only making bad choices. Well that’s a bunch of crud. We have a handful of real losers out here that are making real trouble and we seem unable and unwilling to do anything about it.
I’m racking my brain trying to figure out what can be done to stop this foolishness being committed by a small group of idiots with dumber parents.

The SSD and CSD Security has proven to be infective in solving this problem. Maybe it’s time for a citizens patrol committee to give them some help. Is anyone out there interested?

Maybe there should be a mandatory rule/tool added to alert problem parents of their problem kids late night habits. Send out an automatic all- call to the homes of all kids (picked up for repeated curfew violations) early every morning, with a computer generated voice asking, "It's 2 am, do you know where your children are?" Give the parents 5 minutes to check and return call with affirmative answer that junior is in bed or we automatically send out the dogs. Just a thought......

2) How can they (and/or their parents) be held accountable?

It just defies logic! I know where my kids are (night and day) and I bet 90% of all other parents in RM also know where their kida are. How do we open a few eyes up? How can a parent sleep knowing their kid is wondering about? How can a parent sleep knowing that their kid may be doing petty crimes?
In a few years my/our kids will graduate to universites, their kids will graduate to felonies.

Unfortunately, I believe that when it comes to the kids who are repeatedly wandering the streets of RM late at night many have parents who are aware that junior isn't home and aren't concerned. Or-look the other way-I won't worry about what I don't know. A few back-after one of the summer teen dances, my son and a friend had returned home and went to bed. I was walking through the house at about 12:30 to see a couple of young ladies throwing something at my son's bedroom window to get his attention. I opened the door and told the girls to go home. The next day I heard that this particular young lady had a separate entrance to her bedroom which was on the other side of the house from her parents room-that is just asking for trouble! Of course I have also heard stories from my sons about parents who supply the booze for their underage teens parties and even join in the fun. Those of us who've lived in RM for awhile know that not all the nuts are outside the gates . Another way that I think parents can be proactive in this is when junior wants to spend the night at a buddy's house, make sure the other parents understand that you do not let your child take off in the evenings and what time he/she needs to be in for the night.

This was a couple pages back-but just had to comment. I understand your concern, but trust me these kids don't want anyone who will put a spotlight on them with security or their parents. Those who have suffered these acts of vandalism have no idea why their home/property was chosen. Don't let these punks intimidate you by their acts or their mouths-trust me-they don't want to deal with anyone who's going to give them trouble-or show up on their doorstep to talk to their parents.

Dick, I have been there and done that.....however here is where I see one of the problems....Security does not have the right to stop any kids that they see on the street at any hour and ask them their name or ask them where they are going or coming from. They cannot " detain " them........so blaming them and saying they are inefective is not fair!! They would love to have the permission to do that, but we know where that has to come from. SSD cannot be out here 24/7 so we really cannot blame them either. This is how it is out here....I'm very concerned about all the vandalism and the cost to the residents that have been hit, but I, like the rest of the community, cannot do anything about it.....and it is very frustrating believe me!!! If we patrol in the early morning hours, we really cannot do anything either. Oh yes, we can report that we see 6 or 8 teens on such and such street, but I'm going to tell you that by the time Security gets there, they will be gone. We can't follow them and we can't ask them any questions so basicly we are in the same lousy situation as our Security is....We would just be spinning our wheels.....Until Security gets the permission to be able to stop the kids and question them, this unfortunally will continue....AND every kid in this community knows it.....Any solutions??

Correct me if I am wrong but security never found these criminals so the power to detain would not have helped. Is this not the case for the window breaking and tire slashing too? I just don't see the power to detain as the solution when it would not have helped in the last three incidents.

How about more patrols, by residents, CSD, and SSD? I can see that more boots on the ground would help reduce these crimes. I am in when it comes to resident patrols.

Security never found them but that doesn't mean they didn't see some kids roaming but could not do anything about it......
