Is anyone else having problems with the audio on the recently added Sci Fi Channel?
The background audio (ambiance and music) is loud but all dialogue is almost silent. If I didn't have subtitles on, I wouldn't know people were talking.
Almost sounds as if somehow you're getting the Dolby or DTS 5.1 signal. Those surround encodings route dialogue to the center channel speaker which your TV probably doesn't have....... poke around in settings and see if the TV has surround capabilities and if so try different settings, I'd think.
When I finally upgraded all our stuff to HD this summer I picked up a modern generation HDMI switching, surround sound capable receiver and a fistful of nice speakers including a nice big subwoofer. wowie zowie. I can never go back. The digital channels signal coming out of the wall from RMA does have surround encoding in much of it if you have gear that can figure out what to do with it. Which is what makes me wonder whether you DO have some surround-capable gear in the chain, perhaps the TV itself, which is dealing with that encoding but just not in the right way.
p.s. You're getting Sci Fi through an RMA set top box, right? I haven't found it when rescanning the clear QAMs....

Wilbur, it is on the basic tier, channel 50. There are several channel changes that Justin did before he left for Maui, including adding some more channels to the basic tier.
You were right about only the people with boxes seeing the $24.99 channels.
My Sicfi channel is coming in fine. Also, just for information, this was done because Justin has been working really hard to get good deals for our cable system in the way of contracts, and he knew that many people wanted to get the Scifi channel.

Feisty, could you put in a good word for Animal Planet for next go-round? I would subscribe to premium if it was offered. Thanks

busybee, since Scifi is fine at my house, I'd suggest that if you are still having sound problems, first check your sound system as Wilbur suggested, and if that doesn't work, give Barb a call on Monday morning to schedule the two techs out to your house. I know that the crew would rather you give them a call so that they can come out and check out the problem than to hear that people are complaining about a issue and they haven't given them a chance to fix it. These guys are really good at finding and fixing problems, trust me, I know first hand!
