Default Sacramento Railyards win $17.9M bond

This is an exciting project. Thomas Enterprises is the project developer (Thomas Enterprises - PROJECT DESCRIPTION) - (Thomas Enterprises, Inc. Company Profile | Company Information)

What a fantastic project for Sacramento. With the delay and failure of some of the condo projects in town, its great to see developers moving forward with the Railyard project. The bond to get the roads built and transit to the site is a huge step.

The question for me is if transit is connected out to the airport, which it will be eventually, will the Railyards inherit the problems Natomas has been experiencing? Are the two locations just too close to avoid it?

Does anyone out there know anything more on this project? I dont have any info outside of the investor docs.

When we first moved here I thought it would be a groovy deal to be able to ride Light Rail all the way to SAC (I was traveling a bit).

After thinking about it really, really hard I realized:

1. I didn't want to have to "Put On My Flying Face" at a Light Rail Station in Rancho Cordova.

2. I really didn't want to schlep my bags thru a Light Rail Station and have the hassle of riding Light Rail with my luggage.

3. When I get off of an Airplane at SAC the only thing I want is the warm/cool cab of my truck; I sure don't want to have to board Light Rail and do all the above in esrever.

I know, I know, some creature will fall off the Face of The Earth 'cause that is what I do, but I am certain there is someone here who will make up for my shortcoming.

I don't know enough about Condo, Railyards and such.

Isn't there a garter snake or snail dart or frog or something that will de-rail (pun intended) this project? Or maybe it's so far removed from our neck of the woods, that development is OK there.

Infill projects like this are some of the smartest projects when trying to protect the environment and limit the strain on resources.

Hijacking the thread to validate RHQ...
We lived outside Boston and I took the train to North Station, then walked 6+ blocks to my office (yes, even in the snow...couldda taken "The T" with all those other people, but I didn't). Occasionally someone would be on the train, and then transfer to the orange line to get on the blue line to get to a bus to ride around to the airport terminal. In Boston, cumbersome as that sounds, it seemed like an easier way to travel than hassling with downtown Boston (during Big Dig) traffic. However, coming home, when all you want is to get home, you can't beat having a vehicle at the airport! So yeah, great as it sounds, I think that having a train/light rail to the airport will be a great thing, just not sure that it will really catch on with those of us in the southeastern corner of the county. I know. I could not think of anything sarcastic to say back. I tried, I really did.

This is actually great news. Hopefully in the lull we know now as the housing bust I would hope development continues in this area so that when we come out of this mess in a few years that the railyard area will be a growth area for Sacramento. It will benefit all of us in the metro area and hopefully tie in Sacramento to a really smokin mass transit system that Portland currently enjoys.
