Default Sacramento County

I believe that I need to be educated on a few things here.

Recently I've been hearing a lot regarding how we aren't getting what we should from Sacramento County, particularly considering what we pay in taxes out here.

Where exactly are we getting shorted? I'm not saying we aren't, just wondering.

I know we don't get the sheriff's presence we would like, but I also know that they don't respond to many of the calls we care about even in town.

I was trying to think about what folks in town get from the county, that we do not, and I don't know enough to answer that question. My first thought is whether *anyone*, *anywhere*, is getting what they expect from the county.

I ma not sure but what about roads? Does the county maintain roads normally? Whoever does it gets off easy out here.

Our roads are "private" and maintained by RMA; therefore, although a portion of our taxes are earmarked for road maintenance, the County does not repair/maintain our roads.

Roads and parks maintenance, street lighting and regular patrol services are the big ticket items which come to mind which we pay for ourselves and most of the rest of the county gets for their property taxes.

So in other words, we are double dipped!!!! We pay for county services through our property taxes and pay for our streets, maintenance, water and etc. through our association dues.....!!!!

I’m not quite seeing how we’re getting short shrifted here. We all use the county roads, but the whole county can’t use ours. Compare it to the raceway down the road. Does the county maintain that thing and everything else on its property? Or how about at Aerojet when it was going full bore. Was the county maintaining their roads? Why does the club have to maintain Alemeda?

This is private property by our own choice, not the county’s. Now if you really want to ask yourself a good question, ask this one. If for some reason we decided to do away with RMA and wanted to turn everything over to the county, would they have to take it as is?

Remember, they have building codes, and my guess is, before they’d take any of these roads, a check would have to be made on every single one of them to see if they met the standards necessary. And if they didn’t who would have to pay to bring them up to those standards?

Jack, have you driven on Stonehouse or Scott lately? There's your county minimums.

Yes I have Wil, and I’ve driven on them a heck of a lot over the years and seen a different level of maintenance on them too.

What many folks don’t seem understand is, Scott and Stonehouse at their worst aren’t as bad as many roads in this country. I can guarantee you that there are stretches of roads in many places that make the S&S roads look smooth as glass. And I daresay there are some stretches of roads in Sac County that pretty much suck too, Sloughhouse Rd being one of them. .

Does anyone understand the priority system of how roads are maintained? I don’t, but I assume that traffic has a lot to do with it, and my guess is, the traffic on those roads don’t warrant a lot of maintenance $$$$ compared to others.

I’m sorry, but I grew up in Ohio and spent a lot of years driving on the roads in that part of the country, and our worst roads don’t even make the bottom 30% compared to the roads back there.

so..if I am hearing this right, those who think the county is double dipping feel we should get a fair share of road maintenance but still be able to limit who can use the RM roads? Tax rates are not democratic...the very poor may get more than they put in and the very rich most likely get less than they put in...if you are looking for equity, good luck. If my neighbor pays more in property tax, should she in turn get more county services? That's an argument I think is fruitless to try to win.

I don't know who you are referring to but I did not say that...!!!!! What I said is that we are double dipped....how...because we pay for county roads, maintenance and etc through our taxes.....and...we pay for the same thing in here through our dues....Yes, I know these are private streets....duh!!!!!!
