Default Sacramento City Council Discusses AZ law

Next Tuesday the Sacramento City council will discuss the Arizona immigration law. The agenda states: "Provide direction to staff on potential city position or action with regard to the Arizona illegal immigration legislation, SB1070"

The agenda shows an estimated time of 1 hour. Most of the agenda items do not list a duration, but a few of them do. Here are the ones I could find with a time listed:

    • 2 minutes Marina Fee Revision
    • 5 minutes Temporary Street Closure of The Alleyway Bounded by Folsom Boulevard, 36th, 37thand M Streets;
    • 5 minutes Transit Overlay Zone Amendment
    • 20 minutes FloodSafe and the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan

The City has also put together a 71 page packet dedicated solely to the discussion of the Arizona law.

    http://sacramento.granicus.com/Agend...21&event_id=80

So the the City of Sacramento is going to give 20 minutes to the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan and 1 hour to the discussion of a law in a state where we do not live? Does this seem asinine to anyone? Even if they disagree with the Arizona law, why in the world is the City of Sacramento wasting valuable time and money to prepare reports and have these discussions? Is the City of Sacramento in such good shape that City staff have no Sacramento related work?

Totally agree with you, Matt. I'm really not sure why AZ law is ANYBODY else's business. If the people of that state passed it, so be it. And fer real? The CITY of Sacramento? Maybe a city that borders Cali/Arizona, but last I checked we were several hundred miles away.

    Simple.

The Liberal Activists that elected Councilman Fong told their stooge that this had to be done.

It will make everybody "feel" better.

Can you say "sycophant Mayor Kevin Johnson and Obama connections", as in quid pro quo?" Wouldn't it be nice if the California Capitol City chimes in with the Obama orchestrated Arizona bashing to include foreign nations, all to achieve an ideological agenda? How sick has our government taken us? And how naieve is the populace?

I hope the City Council actually reads the law before they vote. The AZ law refines the federal statute.

I wonder if the city council knows the Mexican law on illiegal immigration is much tougher than the new AZ law:

According to the Border Patrol the public is being mislead as to WHO is coming into the US from Mexico. These are THE FACTS, as reported by WSBTV in Atlanta.

    Video 1 http://www.wsbtv.com/video/23438021/index.html

    Video 2 http://www.wsbtv.com/video/23438712/index.html

If we don't get this message out to the people, we are dead ducks...and soon!

PLEASE send to people before the video expires.

Mexicans here and in Mexico are rather upset by the recent enactment of stricter anti-illegal alien laws by Arizona's governor.

In light of the following, that position demonstrates the typical double standard used by race-hustlers and assorted something-for-nothings. Read on, and read it to the end.

Not that it will matter to those Stooges:

68% Oppose Boycotts of Arizona Over New Immigration Law
    Thursday, May 20, 2010
Boston and Los Angeles were among the first to announce boycotts of Arizona, but 68% of Americans say it’s a bad idea for other cities or states to boycott Arizona over its new immigration law.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that only 14% of Adults think it’s a good idea for cities or states to join that boycott. Ten percent (10%) don’t care one way or the other, and nine percent (9%) more are undecided.

Forty percent (40%), in fact, say they would avoid doing business with any city or state that boycotts Arizona. Forty-three percent (43%) disagree and would continue to do business with boycotting cities or states. Seventeen percent (17%) aren’t sure.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of voters nationwide favor passage of a law like Arizona’s in their own state. When asked specifically about the chief provision of the Arizona law, support is even higher. Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters believe a police officer should be required to check the immigration status of anyone stopped for a traffic violation or violation of some other law if he suspects the person might be an illegal immigrant.

Fifty-five percent (55%) of Americans say when it comes to addressing the immigration issue, their personal views are closer to those of political leaders in Arizona rather than those of political leaders in Washington. Just 26% say their views are closest to Washington political leaders. Nineteen percent (19%) are not sure.
