This is a discussion on Possible security changes discussed by RMA BOD within the Local & Regional Topics forum, part of the Rancho Murieta Topics category; Birdie's got a point, no doubt about it. We simply don't have a big scary crime problem. But we do . . .

Birdie's got a point, no doubt about it. We simply don't have a big scary crime problem. But we do have a modest one which a substantial portion of the membership wants addressed. And ultimately it is the Sheriff who is the answer to the occasional incidents of real crime.

It is right for our leaders to be responsive to that segment of the membership who are demanding that they take some action. Rather than the hyperbolic and/or tongue-in-cheek "everything or nothing" suggestions made here, RMA and CSD need to see what reasonable things can be done to address this constituent concern.

Let's just not over-do it! Penalizing the innocent minors in our midst is not going to reduce vandalism, and may even contribute to it by feeding feelings of alienation.

Good luck with that Matt. I honestly hope that you and your family are never in a real emergency situation out here.

Skateboarding, biking, etc on private property actually might be considered to be a crime... called trespass. If you do it on someone's private property and you damage their property, that also might be a crime. Vandalism.

You can absolutely skateboard on common area. I could care less. Just don't skateboard on my private property without my permission for you to be there. Don't damage the common area and don't damage my private property.

I absolutely think that we, as a community, should create, designate, and build an area where all those wonderfully done tricks can be done and won't cause any damage to anyone's property. Hasn't that been on the RMA's burners (front and back) for a while?

From my point of view, crime and vandalism is a problem in RM.

Well said SS. There are problems here, and they range from vandalism to an occasional arson, possession of drugs with intent to sell, some thefts in the business sections, etc.

I wonder how bad crime has to be before we can officially say that crime is a problem then.

I grew up seeing the SSD patrol occasionally in town, but our neighborhood never had any vandalisms or skateboarding problems. No bank robberies, and I can't recall any murders in our neighborhood

I wonder if maybe then they should have told the sheriff that their services weren't needed?

Who rates having police protection? Only those in the worst areas of town? Since we don't have a crime problem out here, why even get upset at the response times of the SSD?

We have mostly the same crimes here as anywhere else, just not as frequent.

And exactly what more can or will security do with any magical powers we bestow on them?

Answer: Nothing.

Lisa, what the hell kind of statement is this? This is called baiting for all those who like to think it's just me.

Matt, if you have a serious problem or "real emergency", all the dedicated civil servants you've come to know and love. Will be there for you with bells on. No matter what Lisa says.

I agree and if the dire predictions come true I own a gun and lots of ammo.

If that is the case then they should be addressing that with SSD. As BM stated our security does the same thing. At least going to SSD will get it logged and with enough cases opened we may get additional coverage by SSD.

We have a bank robbery and murder problem? RVT and rm.com are really slacking on the news these days.

So are you going to work with SSD to help improve the response time? Let's brainstorm. I am all for get more SSD coverage.

We do not. I talk with members of the LE community almost daily (including the one you and I both were talking to at the car wash) and the crimes here are nothing like the crimes in Sacramento, Elk Grove, or Natomas to name a few.
