It's partly that box rent for a DVR that has me thinking what the heck, maybe it's time to drop some dough on a PC that will DVR among other tricks, and not have another big rent charge for something I won't own.

For around $100 a month I get ALL the movie channels, HD, DVR, and 3 extra receivers from Direct TV. How is RMA even close to being competitive in channel offerings and service? I dont see how they can charge the same for such a scaled down service that won't be able to keep up with new technology.

"QAM" tuners only capture the unscrambled digital channels. And most HDTVs built in the past few years seem to have them. If you have your TV scan for digital channels and it gets ANY of RMA's HD channels, you already have a QAM tuner in it.
RMA's cable box will, I'm sure, also tune in the unscrambled channels for those who decide to subscribe to their premium service.
Thanks for that good info, Wil, and all. 1 1/2 years ago bought an off-brand Sceptre 32" LCD with built-in QAM, from on-line Costco for $500. Works fine, and pulls in the latest RMA HD offerings with no other boxes required. Well, fine if the RMA HD signal is strong, unless sometimes indicates "weak signal", or excessive noise transmission interrupts. The woes of RMA cable, which we do report, and they attempt to fix.
