I live right by Riverview park, it's a nice park and seldom gets the use it deserves. My kids are there almost everyday. I really don't see the pressing need for another park. If more park space is needed, the existing park on Reynosa could be expanded. There's plenty of room.

Yikes. I suspect part of the spread is the difference between an architect's vision of something wonderful and RMA's approach, as mentioned by Rod, of finding ways to accomplish something nice but not necessarily wonderful on a limited budget and with kind help from the OE school and others. I think, without knowing more, that Bob Kjome is on the right track with the suggestion it be rethunk as a phased, scalable thing: some fundamentals now, with a long term plan to flesh it out when more funding becomes available. Starting out with a tot lot may meet the highest need, given that Riverview is a great park for older kids who can easily get themselves over there.

I'm more intrigued by the referenced rediscovery that the Parks Development Agreement draws some distinction in funding available for "community parks" as distinguished from "neighborhood parks. It sounds like it may be a provision guaranteeing that part of a developer's park contributions for a particular development will be used for an amenity in/near their development, where it will help their sales , rather than on something miles away on the other side of a river. I intend to study up on that. So far I see another refreshing sign that finally, some 30 years into our existence, we're finally starting to read the documents and deal with the details, whether they be good, bad or ugly.

I live much closer to Riverview than the new park location, but a park in the Greens would be much more convenient for the residents living further down the parkway.

$600K - $700K? Wow! There is no need to spend that kind of money. I liked Rod comments about using the Operating Engineers training center for grading and excavation work, and a volunteer group would assemble the play structure. Count me in! Outside of operating heavy equipment I am confident most if not all the labor needed could come from residents. Also why not grade the area and maybe just add the tot area. Then later if desired the park could be expanded. In Folsom they build mini neighborhood parks. They generally consist of a small play structure, a water fountain, a bench or two and maybe a table or two. No parking and very little if any grass.

600k? They should save 400k and build the skatepark there.

I'm not a dog person but from what I have heard and read, a Dog Park would be a great benefit for the dog-owning residents. A place where their dog can legally run off their leash and hopefully play not fight with other dogs.

why single out dogs in general? There are many dogs able to fend for themselves and do not need their own park! This discrimination has got to stop! Forced walks, forced naps and playtime! I speak for all dogs (although I am not a dog) whan I say... WOOF! : )

The park site at Riverview is only a little bigger than what you see developed. I think it extends a bit to the 3rd baseline side of the field (pretty unbuildable due to a creek/ravine/etc to that side, as i recall). I think the site at the Greens is considerably smaller and always contemplated as a smaller "neighborhood" park. I think RMA doesn't own any other buildable land on the South, and not much else nor anything adequately sized on the North. The RMA parcel of real estate adequately sized for a community center and/or pool facility is near the end of the North Parkway.

If indeed there is an apportionment of Parks Funds for neighborhood as opposed to "community" parks, it is IMO clearly the South which deserves a neighborhood park, since South parks and dues contributions have historically been spent more on the North than the South, and the Greens site would serve well that somewhat isolated corner and also Lakeview, if it ever does develop back in that corner.

As for a pool I think while it's nice to talk about and should be explored (most feasibly IMO as another phased/scalable project, an eventual add-on to a community center), it's not likely going to happen get built exclusively with members' revenues and will only become feasible when developer contributions start to flow again. Yes, that is dancing with the devil but the real world choices seem to be dancing with the devil or not dancing at all.
