Default Late fees, anyone?

Has anyone with auto bill pay (not EFT) received a 10% late charge from CSD, even though your bank mailed the paper check from Sacramento three days before the due date?
I bank with Golden 1 and they will credit my account with the $11.99, but it was a lot of energy and waiting on hold to get it done. If anyone had this happen and needs a contact, please PM me. Am not sure about other financial institutions, but I heard there were an unusally large number of late charges on the bill due 7/25.

Its happened to me a few times over the past few years on my CSD bill, but Wells Fargo credits back any late fees or penalties.

I didn't know it was so easy to fill out the form- When you're in BillPay, I just click 'details' on the billpay item, then click 'inquiry', then just fill in the info for the bill that arrived late. They don't require anything to be mailed in physically. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised it was so easy.

Nana, take it from an old retired banker!, if you are going to pay your CSD bill 3 days before it is due, I'd suggest you come by and drop it off at the office because it takes more than 3 days to process and mail with the bill pay service. In fact, with El Dorado Savings Banks bill-pay, if they are mailing it to plan on 5 days. If your bill is a E-pay three days is fine though. I think you are cutting it short waiting until 3 days before it is due IMHO

I understood Nana to say that the bank had already mailed the payment three days before the due date. It was mailed from Sacto so it shouldn't have taken three days to get to CSD and be posted to her account.

I guess that would be my question to Nana. Did you request that the bill be paid 3 days before?, and if not, how did you know when the bill pay service mailed the bill. From my knowledge of my bill pay service, when you request that the bill be paid, it takes up to 48 hours to process and than they mail out a check if that the company doesn't have Epay. If in fact Nana spoke to someone at her bill pay service and they told her that they mailed out the bill three days before, than you are correct in your assessment of the facts Lab_lover.

Golden 1 mails paper checks to payees who are not big enough to have the bill amound automcatically transferred; i.e., B of A, SMUD, amex, and the other "biggies" all get electonically transferred. CSD, RMCC, my dentist, Apex and a couple others have paper checks mailed to them (when you check your statement, the check sequence has different numbers than those you write yourself). I do ABP w/ both El Dorado and Golden 1. Each works a bit differently. I believe paper checks from El Dorado are mailed from somewhere in the midwest, but G1's are mailed from Sacramento.
Could also be our post office (again?)--on Weds., neither my RVT nor my CSD bill was in my box; they both arrived Thursday. At any rate, for the current CSD bill, I bumped up the actual payment date by three days, which should provide more than enough leeway.
I'm just one of those who doesn't want anyone to get "my" money before it's actually due!

Hi Nana, I do agree that sometimes I wonder about our post office as well. I used to have that idea as well, that I didn't want to pay my bills until I absolutely had to. Than I cut it way to close, and decided for my stress level, I just pay the bills when I get them.

With BofA online banking bill pay they ask "what day do you want the payment to arrive at the payee's place" This is pretty nice as you never then have a late problem.
