Default I went to visit Ccamp at Mercy Hospital

I don't know how many people know that my friend and neighbor "Ccamp" had a fairly strong stroke a few weeks ago, and since she is now in the Acute Rehab Center at Mercy Hospital, I stopped by to see her today when I was visiting a girl friend in town. I let her know that everyone is rooting for her to recover full mobility of her left leg and arm, and I had a lump in my throat when I left. She was so full of life and energy before this happened, it was really hard to see her lying in the bed, looking so small. I just wanted to let those of you know who have had occasion to chat with her on this site, or know her personally to know what is going on. She is doing physical therapy 3 times a day, but I'm sure she is going nuts having to lay in a bed all of the time. Anyway, Lets all think good thoughts for her because she really is a special person.

Thanks Feisty, I (and others in her e-mail list) had received an e-mail from her husband shortly after the stroke. What a shame this has happened to her. I'm glad you were able to visit with her, I'm sure it brightened her day.

Thanks, please do.

I was thinking about proposing some sort of "virtual get well card" from all of us but would that be cheesy? "E-cards" just don't "feel" the same to me as the real thing, but maybe I'm just too old school....eek....

Maybe when she comes home, we can help a little bit with some meals or anything else that might ease the transition? Maybe Feisty can let us know if there is any help they need, when the time comes.

I've always been more than impressed with the RMO crowd- as much as its a 'virtual' setting, we sure circle around our own.

I talked to Ccamp's hubby this morning, and actually, between her and her husband, they have lots of family helping out. Thanks for the nice thoughts though.

Folks, I know a bit about strokes. I've transported many stroke patients, some with a new-onset of symptoms and sometimes weeks or months afterwards. Recovery depends upon primarily 2 things. One is the size of the "infarct" (dead tissue) and the other is essentially the ability of the brain to rewire itself to compensate for what is now gone. After the initial insult, a large portion of the brain may essentially be stunned and will eventually return to good working order, leaving only a small or moderate effect. This can take a while to work itself out. If the stroke actually kills off a larger amount of tissue, the effects can be permanent. The brain can rewire itself to take over and compensate for some losses, but sometime the damage is too large or the brain has gotten to the point where the rewiring just isn't very efficient.

Ccamp definitely needs to know the community is behind her, and it appears that is the case. Keep sending well-wishes. It will help her and her family to adjust to her latest chapter in life. This isn't written in stone yet!

Fiesty,

Can we send some homemade kids cards with you to ccamp? They are always
so sweet and up lifting.

Peeps - would you like to have your kids make cards for our friend?
