Default I’ve been about the security survey.....

I’ve been about the security survey.

First of all, I think it’s the best survey that CSD has put out in terms of the questions asked.

BUT, I of course worry about how the responses will be used.

Judging by the poll on this site that we just had regarding CSD powers and the percentage of those registered that voted, will this be true of the community in general and their response to the survey?

I do hope that CSD will not only publish full responses to every question, but will also tell us how many questionnaires were distributed and how many were returned.

So, after Mama Mia’s comment about surveys and those that put them out, I went into critical thinking mode. What are the inherent possible problems with this survey?

I agree with Jack T, that it really doesn’t survey all the residents because there is only one survey per household, regardless of residents or even adults at that address.

Also, let’s consider the first round of questions regarding the basic law enforcement functions that CSD already provides (i.e. response to domestic violence, prowlers, etc.). If a resident believes that CSD already has these powers, I suspect that they will be more inclined to consider theses functions very important. If a resident believes that CSD doesn’t already possess the authority for these functions (perhaps the majority of residents?), then they will think they are not as important, as new functions may equate to more money, or increased powers, or increased legislation, etc.

There was a question asking whether there should be more patrol personnel on the street – how important is that? Well, if they don’t know what the patrol officer to resident ratio is now, how can that be adequately answered? How many residents think that there are usually 2-3 patrol on duty rather than usually 1? If they don’t know the situations that patrol officers can get caught in (particularly working solo), how can that survey question be adequately answered? In fact, for the number of residents living here, with increased residents and visitors of all sorts, and the increased traffic that comes through (and stops) from highway 16, how large should our security force be?

Again, I think it was a good survey. I just think that with the previous misinformation out there, the answers aren’t coming from a base of knowledge, which just may compromise the intention of the survey. What do you guys think? How many of you turned your survey in?

I turned our survey in Lisa. I read the questions to my husband, we talked about it, and than put an answer down. I do agree that most of us don't understand what our security is and isn't able to do. I also believe that some of the people out here, don't really care one way or the other, well, until it effects them personally that is.
One of the main reasons I responded to the survey is that many people took a lot of time and energy to come up with this survey, and because of that, I felt it was my duty to reply.

I opened my bill and it was not in there. Otis thinks that the Security Surveys are only a Corporate Oppression Justification tool to keep the man down.

Yikes, Auntbee! I'm sure it was simply a error by the machine or people who stuff the bill. I wouldn't take it personally. Give CSD a call and I'm sure they would be happy to send you one.

Woof, you commented on the thoroughness of the survey. It arrived with the 11/25 billing--bright green (lime-colored) so no one could miss it! If someone is a renter and the owner gets the CSD bill, the owner is the one who would recieve the bill, in which the survey was included. Responses are in excess of 550 and will be tabulated soon. This is a significant response rate (cehck with poll takers and see the margin of error with this number of replies in just a couple percent.
Place of residence is broken out; i.e., North, South, Village, and commercial customers. You will see an avid group of "compilers" at the CSD building late next week. If anyone is willing to donate 3-4 hours of his/her time, please pm me. (We are talking about Thurs. or Fri., starting early and getting it done).
