Default "How Incredibly Tacky" has arrived on the South...

Just left the couch and went over to the P.O.

The Maintenance crew, bless their hearts, is on the south, putting lights in the big pine tree near the guard shack and the GAUDY "Season's Greetings" sign across the structure over the resident lanes and guard shack.

Oh. My. Gawd.

It looks like something one might see on a freeway over-crossing, or entrance to a downtown area (think across hiway 49 thru Sutter Creek).

I know, some will like it, but fer the love of Pete, we need to have the tacky toned down.

I'm Martha, maybe it will transform into Magical when night time comes and it is all lit up? The kids love that stuff. OOh, AHH!

Yes, it is the tacky time of year. Bad taste and overkill abound.

I know, I know, I have a bad attitude. It is so sad that we treat what should be a warm family holiday season with "too much" ...

My house is the one with no blinking red and green lights festooned all about. A simple wreath on the door is enough.

Bah Humbug! I'm just teasing you. I agree some of it is "too much" but I enjoy driving around the community with my kids and viewing the light displays.

Several years ago, when I was with the Community Club, we bought and paid for commercial Christmas decorations for our gates. Since the one's that were used were several years old and really not to scale for such an entrance as North and South. The first year the maintenance dept put them up, someone complained that Santa's head was crooked and was scaring the kids!!!! Then they complained about other things. We spent $6000.00 for the decorations and had our person, who's in the decoration business, go purchase them on their own time and arrange their placement. Bit*h, bit*h was all we got for our efforts. The next year, after we disbanded, maintenance put some of the decorations out and not others...don't know why!! We purchased beautiful deer and giant packages all lit up...A sleigh with Santa and many other nice things. So if folks don't like what is out there now, maybe they should go to RMA and put up some of their money to improve them. We tried....for naught!!!

I'm glad I'm not alone about the decorations. I just got back from Plaza Foods and when I saw how it looked my jaw dropped. I looked at my mom and said "hopefully they look nice when they are lit?"

guess it's true, no good deed goes un-punished. Maybe some of the money for stonehouse lights could go to buying some 'acceptable' decorations. And who decides what is acceptable?

...am I hearing that you are volunteering to purchase the 'correct' decorations and putting them up?

I haven't seem them yet but I'm excited. It puts me in the mood for the holidays. I guess if we didn't have any I would be really disappointed.
