So, since Wilbur is now your friend, does that get your friend count up to 3 or 4 (depending if you count yourself?)

Alright, I'm done with the Birdie sarcasm today...I'll find a better cause (soon).

MoonMan, you'd have to add a couple of zero's to that and make it 3 or 4 hundred friends.

Not too discerning then, huh? Damn, I couldn't resist (I'd give myself a groan if I could...or at least a Gong Show gong)

For the record and verifiable by all my friends, I may get snookered 3 or 4 times a year. Not a week, not a month, a YEAR. My point about having a few pops and driving your cart home, is that it's better than seeing people get in their cars and try and drive home. Never said it was right, I just believe it's much safer, for EVERYONE. I'll take an idiot hitting a tree in the neighbors yard with his golf cart over hitting a family of 4 in his car on Jackson Hwy., any day of the week.
Ok... so you're ok with the possibility that some drunk golf cart driver heading home, minding his or her own business, forgets to turn on them headlights (darn it, why can't I see?), doesn't notice that nice family of four walking along a not-so-well lit but generally safe street, enjoying a nice evening walk, and runs into them (instead of a tree) at 25 mph in a 1300 lb golf cart? Since this family of four isn't protected by being inside a nice steel cage, how many of them end up with serious injuries or dead?

How about your statement being re-written this way:
I'll take an idiot hitting a kid in the neighbors yard with his golf cart over hitting a family of 4 in his car on Jackson Hwy., any day of the week.

Are you still ok with that? If you are, you're being an advocate for DUI without consequences behind the gates. If you're not, then you're either being hypocritical or being argumentative. How about talking facts here.

You can not control what some drunk driver hits or does not hit inside the gates any more than you can outside the gates. There is a reason why DUI applies even while on private property.

I can stomach the idea that Birdie is saying that drunk golf cart driving is LESS dangerous, but I hardly think he (or any sane person) would say that hitting a kid or nice family in a golf cart (drunk or not) is tolerable.

You can get a DUI on a bike as well. Frequently happens in bike college towns, and as I recall hearing back then, it goes on your driving record.

I think we're splitting hairs on a bald guy at this point. Drunk driving isn't worth it one way or the other. But the risk of serious injury to unassuming victims I would imagine IS lower if you're not in a car.

My point I was trying to make was about how some prefer a lawless environment and others want a cop one every corner. And those who prefer lawlessness (other than perhaps their parking obsession) champion the status quo and criticise the audacity of those who suggest the exploration of bolstered enforcement powers.

Let me know what you come up with.

Talking in hypotheticals, anthing can happen. But what has actually happened in the past? How many funerals and fundraisers have you been to for a family of 4 killed by a DUI golf cart driver in RM?

I am quite fine with our security the way it is. I do not believe we need to bolster anything. What in the world do you hope to accomplish? People get away with breaking the law under the watchful eye of a man with an M-16. Bolstering our own security forces will not stop the relatively little crime we have out here.

Wilbur, you know that the "status quo" is not a lawless environment. It's a demeaning scare tactic used by you and LisaT to try and sell your agenda. Problem is, we're not buying.

I'm not splitting hairs at all. While you can get a DUI on a bicycle, the total mass of that bike is much less than a golf cart. In a bike vs pedestrian collision, both rider and walker might get hurt, but the risk of death to either is not too bad. I do not condone Bike DUI. Biker still makes stupid mistakes that can result in swerving into traffic and causing (probably) their own death. The only thing that makes a golf cart slightly less dangerous is that typically they're of less mass and they don't normally go quite as fast as a typical passenger car. It still doesn't matter much to the person who gets hit by one. 1300 lbs of mass moving at 25 mph (some can do 35 mph) will still very efficiently kill someone or even a small group of people. It would do less damage to a tree than a typical car though... So, I guess from the standpoint of property damage, golf carts might be a better choice...

But a Prius can be just a quiet as an electric golf cart... food for thought.
