Default Driveway Parking

I know we have talked about this somewhat in other threads, but what do you think about driveway parking? It seems like the RMA is always dealing with variances all the time. Should we be granting variances?

I will need one in a few years. We have two drivers now and will have at least 2 more in a few years (Maybe 3 more depending on who lives at home). At some point we will probably buy a golf cart, so we have a potential of having 6 vehicles and only a three car garage. Should I get a variance to park 3 cars in my driveway? I don't like the look of a street full of cars in the driveway, but what options will I have when the time comes?

Didn't you read the CC&Rs when you moved here? You knew the rules. Suffer the consequences.

Just kidding. LMAO.

You know, one or two cars in the driveway don't bother me cuz I can't think of ANY house on the south where any vehicle is in the driveway 24/7. I think it's ridiculous that we waste time and money citing vehicles parked overnight, cuz come 7:30, most have left for their daily commute (or maybe they're home during the day cuz one of them works nights). But I do like the look of clear driveways and ZERO cars parked on the street.

I have a problem with some trying to lay down the law about what kind of vehicle folks should buy. Perfect example is my neighbors garage. Former neighbors had two Suburbans (three kids, carpool, yadda, yadda...whatever), both were parked in the garage but the only way they could do that was to, literally, touch the wall in front cuz someone, in their infinite wisdom, didn't think to build many homes on the south with garages that you could park vehicles in AND manuever (and somehow RMA couldn't mandate garage size...still scratching my head about that)! With even just one vehicle in the garage, in the event of a fire, you couldn't get to the side door to get outside. We're maxed out and our second car is a Honda. We have a work bench and a freezer that prevent us from having a larger car in that bay. When the ol' Honda bites it, we've got size of vehichle to consider in addition to cost and what we may want at the time.

We're not storing Jeeps with stacks of crap piled high on top of and around (yes, there is a house on the South with just that going on), and we don't have our truck lifted and/or with a roof rack on it that would prevent it from fitting in the garage, and we don't have torn down Blazer being worked on in the garage either (yeah, that's going on over here too). But, in both of those cases, the vehicles that ARE parked outside are fairly decent looking and are typically only there overnight.

Matt, I heard some are having a hard time getting their variance approved in a timely manner. Perhaps you should submit your request now, cuz three years will be up like THAT! (where's that finger snapping smiley?)

Hey, Matt, not too long ago, rm.com ran a story about the man who built a custom home on a lot way back in a custom-lot area of the Crest--it had an eleven car garage! Maybe, given R&B's fiscal condition, you could get a deal on a lot and maybe plagiarize the house/garage plans from the builder/owner! Just a thought. . .

The house next door is empty, the one across the street is empty, the one behind me is empty. You may be on to something.

Sounds like you are talking about Colbert Dr w/the lifted trucks and storing Jeeps

Some people just use their garage as a 3 room storage unit. I really do not care. It is their mess they have to look at. I am the opposite. I do not like my cars in my driveway. Keeps them out of the sun/weather and makes my front of the house look cleaner.

What makes me chuckle is seeing the one car and one golf cart in a 3 car garage with crap/clutter everywhere or the one golf cart, small boat, one car and they have to park another car outside.

For a short time I had a 18.5 foot boat, full size SUV, car, and golf cart in my 3 car garage with garage cabinets.

If you need to park cars outside due to teenagers and kids growing up and driving and your garage is full of other running cars, then it should be granted and okay. It is the other examples that I chuckle at.

No...not Colbert. Good to know we all have "them" living nearby!

Funny, Young Master and I were in my old 'hood in EG. Gah, some of those houses look like dumps now! Over-grown trees, shrubs, funky colors (originally all were a shade of brown...hey, it was the late 70's after all!), crappy cars covered in dust parked in the driveways, a "yard car" here and there...

Sheesh!

I do not live on Colbert, but have a few friends on that street.
People love to leave their garages open I guess to showcase their junk
