Default Corrections Official Accused Of DUI

From KCRA :

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. -- A high-ranking state corrections official has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in a state vehicle in Rancho Murieta, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday.
Scott Michael Kernan, who serves as undersecretary of operations for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, was taken into custody by the CHP at about 8:10 p.m. Sunday along Jackson Highway just east of Indio Drive.
Kernan was driving a state vehicle at the time of his arrest, the CHP said.
After the arrest, Kernan immediately notified Matthew Cate, Secretary of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and expressed regret during the call, the department said.
He is on personal paid leave while the department evaluates possible punishment that could range from suspension, reassignment or termination.
Kernan was nominated to his position last fall by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I am confused, says he was arrested in Rancho Murieta, but Indio Drive is not in Rancho Murieta.

My guess is that whomever wrote the story for KCRA looked on a map and saw the closest intersection was Indio/Latrobe (even tho WE know it's Stonehouse/Lone Pine...but a different intersection). With all due respect to people that bring us the news (the traffic people drive me crazy...but that's a rant for another day...), they just don't know the more rural areas of the county.

So what's the latest on our other Correctional Officer who lives in Rancho Murieta that rolled his car on Colbert and then ran away?

It reflects badly on all California Correctional Officers when a few bad apples get caught breaking the law. I know the outstanding Correctional Officers I know are more pissed about this than I am.

If I were arrested for DUI in the company vehicle I'd be fired post haste. No paid leave and no one would be waiting around to see how the trial turned out.

You don't belong to The California State Corrections Officers Union.

Maybe if you live on Indio your address is Rancho Murieta, hence Indio is considered Rancho Murieta.

I don't live in Sloughhouse but my address is Sloughhouse.

Since my Zip code is the same as Rancho Murieta's I guess I live in Rancho Murieta as much as I live in Sloughhouse.

I get mail addressed to both.

P.S. I do live behind a Gate, does that count?

This story confused me at first, I thought it was talking about our resident who had the DUI/rollover and that they were finally arresting him.

I thought it was kinda silly that they picked him up while he was driving for something that happened a month or so ago...But now after re-reading it this is a totally different guy who was driving drunk at the time of his arrest.

Sorry I get confused easily

That actually did cross my mind.

Thanks, 2112, for confirming they are not the same.

I thought the same thing until I read the article BethB. So, we now know that we have two correctional employees that drink and drive here in our little community. Isn't that good to know.....
