cats that poop in my yard!

Okay, I'm just venting, but here goes. I love cats..... and I really have a huge problem with cat owners letting their cats outside to poop in other peoples yards. In my opinion, when people let their cats outside, they do this so that they don't have to clean up a cat box. I certainly understand the hassle of doing this, this is why I don't have a cat, so that I don't have to do it myself. What really is causing my rant right now is that there is a owner of a cat in my neighborhood that lets its cat outside to poop, and it is coming into my yard and poops right next to the trunk of one of my really big redwood trees. Because of the branches, I didn't notice it in till there was a huge pile. UGH, disgusting!!! So, I had to scoop all of this poop up because I'm sure this isn't good for the tree, besides the other issues associated with piles of poop! I always hose the deer out of my yard, and now I guess I will start hosing the cats out as well. PLEASE owners of cats; keep your feline friends in your house, because it is inconsiderate to expect your neighbors to clean up your cats poop!!!

Hey! Clean up after your dogs too! Thanks fiesty. And, I'll bet the term "herding cats" was coined because of cat poop issues.

Put some crushed moth balls around where the cats poop....they hate the smell!!!!!

Feisty, that isn't cat poop. Cats bury their poop! And cats are different from dogs!!! SOME spend a lot of time outdoors, by themselves.. you don't have to have leashes on them or walk them, or pick up after them!

I have two cats & no litter box. My cats spend most of their time indoors, but go outside to use the restroom like they ought to!

I've never heard that mama, good suggestion! I spray my flower beds with this natural stuff thats supposed to keep the cats out of them.. I'll have to try your way!!

Hmmm. Time for some good old fashioned scat analysis. What, exactly, is IN the poop? I just saw that you can order owl "pellets" for your children to dissect. "A great science project!" Who knew you could make money from owl poop? That's innovation baby.

hmm. good point about the burying trait. Out of curiousity I googled up some pics of raccoon poop, which I shall spare the readers, and it looks indistinguishable to me. Wonder if?

That may be true for most cats, however, when I lived in the bay area, we had cats in the neighborhood. I had a lovely planter area right by the front door. Cats used to go in there and not bury it!!! When you walked up to my front door...it smelled like you just entered "FISHERMAN'S WHARF".!!!!!! I'm not kidding....it was really bad!!!! Someone told me about the moth balls and I put them out...it worked. They left the area and I didn't have any more problems......

Speaking of cats, has anyone noticed increased activity in the SKUNK population? At least twice a week I am awakened in the middle of the night by something outside getting skunked and it has to be pretty close for the odor to wake me up. Anyone else, anyone....
