Cameras catching right turn "California Stops"

From this morning's Bee... News - Cops catch right-turn violations on video - sacbee.com. They've moved on from still photos (left turn violations), and are using a 12 second video clip to nail you on right turn 'california stops'. Is it public safety or just another revenue stream? I vote the latter.

How do we get one of those for the intersection at the north gate I've lost count of the number of times I have had a green light (west bound) and had someone just pull out in front of me.

Gotta agree on that one......but when you wait, someone behind you starts "testing out" the horn....I wait, when there is a pedestrian crossing the hwy, as the law says " you must wait until they reach the other side ". Boy, do I catch it then!!!!!

Many years ago Chief Noller set up a video camera at several key intersections and taped all the cars running/rolling the stop sign. And they edited it down and put it on Channel 5, a long loop of car after car blowing stop signs.

There was an explosion of outrage. Not at all that unsafe driving, but at the Chief's gall to expose people for it. We are, after all, special and entitled behind these gates, and running stop signs with impunity from exposure for it is one of our entitlements. RMA chickened out and down came the tape.

I remember that... I just wish there was as much outrage about the speeding, driving under the influence, and kids not properly restrained in vehicles. I see kids bouncing around in cars far too often around here

I see adults bouncing around in cars far too often around here. Nothing like seeing someone coming at you at 25 or 30 mph, and realizing that their entire body is turned around.... maybe checking on whatever dog or kid that is in your rear seat could be done while you're STOPPED? Just an idea though.

I'm sure everyone will appreciate the efforts of RMA. We have put approximately $30,000 in the 2009 budget for security cameras. So friends and neighbors the pictures are on the way. If I can swing it we'll be running a new reality show on channel 5.

I had posted years ago that a friend lived up in Medford, OR, and that any DUIs were published in the local newspaper so the residents could be publicly humiliated. But for some reason CDS/RMA does not want that done...I guess because it would upset the residents. Well if you do the crime, you gotta pay the fine and if that fine is having your name in print for your neighbors to see...then so be it.

And back to the original topic, well considering some Red Light Runners do cause accidents and have caused deaths, I do think its warranted.

It looks as though RMA did what the people wanted, which of course if admirable. I just do not get what the cameras are going to provide. From what I've read here, they are effective for traffic violations and ATM thefts. Not effective for monitoring 'areas of concern' or decreasing crime as the activity merely gets moved elsewhere. GB, do you happen to know where the cameras will be placed and what the expected impact will be? Thanks! Keep up the good work. Your dedication to the community is appreciated.
