According RMA's website, Jack Cooper's term ends 11/10, therefore there is a two year and 5 month period remaining.
With the revolving door of RMA directors resigning in the last decade, the association should have a clear handle on what is required by the governing documents.
The format has been: announcement of the vacancy, acceptance of "willingness to serve" forms from community volunteers until a deadline date, interviews held in a public forum, and selection by directors' ballots.
The ballots have been unsigned in the past, but there have been calls for a more open vote that clearly demonstrates which director votes for which candidate.
I shall remain publicly silent about my opinion of this resignation and the behavior that prompted it.

Attached are the forms and information sheet required for this BOD seat. The BOD will interview the candidates at a special board meeting that has not been set yet. (probably be the first week of June).

While RMA operates under the Davis-Stirling Act, CSD operates under the Government Code and that oh-so-illustrious Brown Act, which does not allow for secret ballots or written, unsigned "votes."
Hmmmm. . .which way do you think is better?

I don't think the next director should be too worried about the pot shots. There's usually a grace period for all of that, and the focus will be on the "hot heads" infront of, and behind the podium for the time being.

Personally, I'd like to be part of the craziness, but absolutely don't have the time to do the job I think it deserves. Unfortunately, part of the problem resides in the way that RMA functions (historically and unnecessarily) with such obsessiveness on minor issues, and neglect of the larger ones.

Be that as it may, I say the "newbie" deserves the free pass for AT LEAST six months as they get their feet wet, and sift through the mountains and molehills. At least until they say something crazy

Why bother with a board and director at all? Save a lot of time and money. There seems to be a rather 'vocal' group of 20 or so here that feel they have better ideas on how to run the local government. The only opposition I have heard is that most say they have no time. Well, there seems to be no shortage of time to post here on a regular basis...look at some folks' stats. Keep the committees and leave the voting of issues to an online forum. 30 or so people can vote on issues and make things happen. No need to attend regular meetings. Place a time limit on voting and let staff carry out the orders. Lots of discussion on the topics 24/7 and no need to limit a person's time at 'the podium'. Government by the people for the people. One IP one vote.

that is a great point about having the time. Certainly we know that John and George have the time since we saw them sitting over at the Plaza and other places trying to get people to sign their petitions for hours at a time. I believe that it is always easier to tear people down than to actually be part of the process. And, lets face it, Maybe people won't vote them in if they actually did run. Boy, that would be awkward! Also, since John has been at most of the meetings, it couldn't be time that holds him back. I wonder how any of them would feel if they were sitting on the board, and they got the same treatment from the audience like they did to this board?? I sure don't see much empathy from some on this site, and that makes me feel sad. I especially feel bothered with Wilbur since his lovely wife Pam was on the board. How would he have liked it if his group had treated her in the same way that they treated this board. I guess it is always different when you feel that you are RIGHT.

Just one question please? Why does eveything thing in life have to be so complicated?

Who makes the rules for anything in life....and why? Having heard so many times "Well thats the rule" Introduce me to those folks that made these rules with a solid explanation to back them up.

So many accept so much by asking so little. Sorry, I'm just the type of person that wants to know what makes a watch tick, more than just it's ticking.

It's not a government, it's a corporation. That's the leading cause of a lot of the problems. A Board of Directors is supposed to provide direction and solutions, not more angst.

Icini, if you want to know who makes up the rules, then you have to know which rule you are talking about.

And why? I think sometimes there is a valid reason, and often it's because some people like to control others, sometimes reasonably, sometimes unreasonably. Where that line is, certainly is an individual thing!

better yet, if it's a corporation, we can buy votes. I propose someone make a motion for a hostile takeover... : )
