Default Bobcat sighting

Myself, my wife and our two sons decided to go for a cart ride monday evening about an hour before sunset. On our way back home from the north to the south we crossed the wooden bridge and headed down the path next to the river. We made the right hand turn where the path goes from asphault to dirt and as we were driving next to the orange temporary fence, something caught my eye to the left sitting on a rock. I said to my wife, "I think I just saw a mountain lion back their and I turned around to check it out" (probably not smart). As we got back to the spot you could see an animal sitting on a rock about 25 yrds. from the path. Finally, it turned and looked at us and sure enough, it was a Bobcat (not a moutain lion). We sat their and watched it for about 5 minutes and another cart came by and we pointed it out to them as well. We were really astonished that it let us watch him for so long without taking off as we were farely close to the cat.
We left and went home and I decided to grab my camera and go back just in case he was still there (my neighbor jumped in as well). As we approached the site, the cat was gone but we continued towards the river and sure enough, he was walking down the dirt path headed to the river. He must have weighed between 30-40 lbs. and I could not tell his color as it was getting darker. I followed him and as I tried to take a picture, he jumped up and around some rocks and was gone.
I know we have had mountain lion sightings in Rancho, but has anyone seen a bobcat before? I hear they are highly elusive.

I saw that same Bobcat Sunday night coming home from a friends house. The area is around the 1st and 2nd greens on the north as you take the path to the bridge. I have also seen a Bobcat crossing the 1st fairway on the north just about a year ago and another crossing the 18th fairway on the south about 18 months ago.

I saw one a couple times on the South walking towards the fish ladder by the river behind the 11th and 12th holes. This was late last year and early this year.

Was not shy at all and not too afraid of my dog.

I see a Momma Cat every Spring, I would rather not say where.
She normally will make herself visable long enough for me to follow her and then she will trot for quite a while down the road, always in the same direction.
Don't know if it is the case or not but I like to believe she is teasing me to draw me away from her Cubs.
Every Spring, for the last 5 years or so.

Yes, I have. I woke up very early in the am and looked out our bedroom window to see one coming from the neighbors house toward ours, i had to do a double take and got really exicited about it. iKnew it was one by the movements and the size., not your regular houe cat. Also had an experience with one in La. when I was 11 years old, coming home from a friends house through the corn fields when i looked around and saw one following me. i started to run and so did it as i got closer to to home i started to scream and my dad came out and met me with a large stick iI I made contact with a bob wire fence just as he leaped but my dad also made contact with it. I still have the scares from the fence... and the memories...

A friend said she saw one (Bobcat) across from her house at Trinidad & the 2nd Guadalupe.

I just spoke to another lady over the weekend, she lives on the 2nd Guadalupe on the golf course side of the street. She had a Mt. Lion in her back yard a year or two ago. She now does her walking on a treadmill in the house.

Yes, in the days before the De La Cruz/De La Pena lots filled in, a Bobcat managed to do a fair job controlling the rabbits in there, it has not been noticed lately.

Bobcats have been sighted out here for years...nothing new. I was playing golf with some gals several years ago and one just crossed the fairway right in front of us...no problem, he just walked away and we played away....

It clearly looks like a Bobcat to me. It would be pretty hard to mistake the two, definetely not a Mountain Lion.
