Default $500 fine for curfew violation

I followed your little curfew topic so I hope I am not opening a can of worms here, but $500 for a curfew violation? Isn't that a bit steep.

I just finished reading the dom com and I am a bit concerned about where we are headed. My children moved away from home longer than most of you have been alive so this does not affect me personally. I support a tough stance on the rules, but taking away the warnings and $500 for a curfew violation is going too far. I agree with Martel on this one.

Fines for this and fines for that. It sure seems like some on the board think they have figured the way out of budget woes, fine them. If this is a good idea maybe we can fine the cable operators for the non working cable system.

I agree. We appear poised to overreact. What started as a simple problem that CSD's curfew ordinance was invalid and a Rule was needed to replace it (if there's to be a curfew at all, a debatable need) seems to be morphing into an effort to write an unnecessarily restrictive rule and become unduly punitive about it.

Regarding skateboarders, that some idiots tow skateboards behind vehicles is not a reason to ban skateboarding (sans tow vehicle) from every inch of the common area. Certain practices like that and placing ramps or other obstructions in the street should be prohibited, but what harm is done by a kid skating rather than biking down a hill?

Life is really funny, if you have the energy to laugh.....here's how it seems to work. The state budget is overdue, but the folks that tend to that are on vacation....WHAT!!!!!! Now when they get back they will probably raise fee's and taxes to balance the budget......WHAT!!!! Same here in Oz.....low on funds, well we will just raise the dues and fines and we will be fine.....Oh gawd, put something strong in my morning coffee.....

If it is a duck call it a duck! If we need money, like most municpalities, then okay raise the tax. But have the guts to call it what it is. A TAX. A raise in dues whatever. To FINE here and there only gets people crazy.

It's old fartism, and Dick's showing his age.

Start the fines for curfew at $50.00 and raise it $25.00 after each offense. And make curfew 11:00 instead of 10:00, I think 11:00 is a more reasonable time.

$500 is too high, but I don't see enforcing CC&Rs and imposing higher fines as a way to generate money.

Thank you to the board for working on this difficult issue.

I agree with Mike Martel on this. We do not need to have HOA rules delving into the personal behavior of members. The proposed fines are ridiculous to begin with, and frankly who can trust a fair hearing from the kangaroo court that compliance is. I would hope these proposals will die in committee.

If these proposed rules and fines get enacted as is, I for one will seriously consider moving away.

hear, hear. I understand we need to make money, but there are many, many opportunities to fine us on rules we already have in place. Start enforcing driveway parking, arch. infractions, etc. Those are the rules I agreed to when I bought our home here.

Hey, you could get hit with the trifecta.

Nice summer night. Your kid is at friend's house around 11:00 p.m., with a group of other friends. They get a little to rambunctious in the backyard pool. Security drives by, tells them to knock it off. Kids decide to call it a night. Your kid grabs a skateboard and heads home.

Late night noise violation. Cha-ching.
Curfew violation for being out on the street. Cha-ching.
Skateboarding. Cha-ching.

Fines. $1500.00.
