Now, does anyone know exactly what the rec committee recommended?
  • Did the rec committee meet with CSD to brainstorm the large crowds for this year?
  • Where will the extra security (if hired) be stationed at key places?
  • Will there be a need to have extra help at the gate more than in the past?
  • Who will keep the parade of cars moving and not backing up HWY 16?
  • How will you know if a walk-in is a resident, and what is the procedure for turning people away, especially if they have been waiting in line?
Hopefully, these questions (and more) were solved in the rec meeting. Does anyone know exactly what the rec committee put together for a plan in the past year to address these issues that will "hit" the front gate (north) on July 4? It appears vague in watching the meeting and no real plan from Mike/rec. comm.. IMO it looks like a mess waiting to happen, I think I will watch the show from a distance and avoid the cluster mess.
In all fairness, if you watch the meeting you will hear Mike say that he was planning to address the 4th of July Passes during the Rec Committee Report. Mel took it from there, Jim tried to explain the rec committee recomendation, a motion was made, discussion ensued, the motion was amended, a vote was taken and affirmed 5 to 1. Jim was a no if I remember correctly. I don't think Mike ever got a chance to thoroughly explain the Rec Committee's recommendation or reasoning behind it. Then more confusion when RM.com reports that guests on the permanent guest list will not require passes, clarified by Jim. I specifically recall hearing the question asked during the discussion and the directors indicated that yes, the passes were needed for guests on the permanent list. That is just my impression of what I observed. But I agree with you, I was left with more questions than I felt had answers.

Again, has anyone talked with Mike or any other rec member to figure out what the real plan is... if there is one, or did the rec committee and Mike just throw something out to the BOD at the last minute to make it sound like they actually had a plan? Anyone have an answer... and not a negative comment?
More veiled attempts at cheap shots. I thought you attended all the committee meetings and BOD meetings 57? Apparently you don't, guess we won't have to listen to you saying "go to the meetings" anymore. What's good for the goose obviously doesn't apply to you.

Just a suggestion: Maybe from 16:00 on on the fourth, security man both lanes on the North. They could wave cars through with guest passes and residents in both lanes, thus reducing back log.

That could work... provided the guest traffic pays attention.

I remember several years ago, the inbound "4th" traffic was diverted around Lone Pine to get pre-screened and passed. I don't recall how well that worked out, but at least the gate didn't have to deal with all of the "who, what, where... ", they just checked for a pass.

Even if only say 25% of guests notice signage or whatever that would still relieve some of the backing up that will occur. Also, if one really thinks crazy Security could give passes out at the plaza. Then those with passes would now know about the right lane working for guests with passes.
No matter what it will be a tough afternoon for Security at the Gate.

57, are you on the Rec committee? I think you might be and therefore probably know that what was presented at RMA was pretty close to what was kicked back and forth via email.

There were no meetings with CSD or any formal study, just some ideas on something different that might help solve some of the issues on the 4th.

If you are not on the committee, sorry for thinking you might be, and I would be happy to answer any questions about the committee "discussions" (at least those I am aware of) about the pass plan idea.

If it doesn't work and ends up in a "cluster mess", fire us (please).

Outside the box....

What if we had a "will call" over by the Plaza where visitors without passes could be prescreened/pick them up? Would that significantly reduce the number of guests arriving at the gate without passes?

Didn't we try that one year or am I dreaming? Seems we had a booth set up over on Lone Pine for those to pick up passes.....wonder how that worked. I just cannot remember. The gate officers really get jammed up on the 4th and I would hope through all these years, someone could come up with a workable solution.

Not a bad idea, Wilbur, but staffing such a window creates a whole 'nother set of problems. Do we "trust" a volunteer to do it? Do we want to lay out the cabbage to PAY an RMA employee (of which, I'm not sure there are many, they're already pressed into action inside the gate), or a CSD officer?

Not trying to pee in your corn flakes, but THAT would be the kind of thing that the $5/pass (or more, looking to the future) beyond x-number of passes would have to pay for. I honestly don't have a better idea than some that have been floated here, but I like that we can have a discussion about!

And, if anyone wants my passes, they're going for $25/ea!

Thinking thinking......isn't the North gate the responsibility of RMA? Would it be a good idea for RMA and CSD, (if they haven't already) have a joint meeting to decide what to do about the passes? If an RMA employee has to work at the gate on that day, they can always take a day off during the week. I'm sure it's been done before. Does any of this make sense? We have had the same problems on the 4th for years with the gates. The phone rings off the hook and it's very difficult for the gate officer to answer the phone and deal with the guests at the same time......how do I know....I've been there and seen it with my own eyes!!!!
