Computer Game Will No Longer Play

My son has a computer game that he has played on his computer quite frequently. As of the last couple of weeks after the game logs him into the internet he gets an error message that there is a problem with Windows and it shuts down the game before it ever really starts. Did Windows do something recently that might be affecting his game. I did try a system restore but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks, from a frustrated mom of a frustrated young man.

Is this still an issue?

Did you recently install any software or hardware?
Try unplugging every USB connection you can. Does it still happen?
Does this always happen as soon as you connect to the internet?

Yes.

Yes, but I went back to a restore point before son maybe, perhaps, I'm not sure, no I didn't, download any software.

There isn't anything connected to a USB port but his mouse. It is a laptop, does that make a difference? It still didn't work without the mouse plugged in.

It is right after the game automatically logs into son's internet account that windows says there is a problem and shuts him down. How do I find any conflicts the game may be having? Also, his laptop barely has the capability to run game but it ran it just fine until recently.

Son is afraid if I uninstall his game to reinstall it all his charactors he made will be lost. Do you know if that is true or are they normally stored in files separate from the game program files? Should the game booklet tell me that somewhere?

Could you tell me the error message? It could be video drivers or went corrupt.

And the USB is most likely not your problem.

Also a reinstall would also most likely fix this issue but be sure not to check the box that says delete saved games and configurations as that will make your son very mad .

Regarding Spore, I loved that game. It's just too bad I'm not creative enough to make my creature look any better than a 4 legged monster with giraffe neck and wings on my feet.

Once I got the the "tribal" stage, I was pretty much toast considering I had underdeveloped hands. I was pecking people with my beak of destruction while they were throwing javelins at me

Apparently, there is something VERY special about this game. I kept telling my son "it is just a game," and I thought he would get over not being able to play it, but NOOOOOOOOO. So, we called in the big guns. For a game, , I am still shaking my head. But the world is right, once again, in the Zebra household.
