This is a discussion on Anybody getting into the minibook craze?!? within the Computer Help forum, part of the The Help Desk category; I've been watching prices on these minibooks for a while and finally bit the bullet on a dell mini for . . .
I've been watching prices on these minibooks for a while and finally bit the bullet on a dell mini for $200!!!
This fully functional laptop cost less than my cell phone but can run all of my typical computer applications and can access internet anywhere I get a cell signal.
Anybody else into this craze?

I have the Acer One I picked up from Costco back in November and took it to India. In fact I am using it now to type this message. It is my main computer at home since I can carry it in one hand and go room to room using my wireless connection in the house.
Highly recommend it depending on your needs/expectations.

I already have a blackberry with dataplan through T-mobile for 59.99 a month. The dataplan is unlimited so I tether it via bluetooth (most of the time) or via USB.
As far as I know, there is no need to get a new mobile broadband service.
To be honest, I was really excited when I first got it but I mostly use it for email and web browsing when I'm bored. I'll take wife shopping and if the kids are asleep in the car, I'll let her shop while I browse.

I like my Ipod Touch. It has Wifi, its small, its about the same price, and with apps you can do almost all the things you could on a netbook. Email, music, browse the web. No word processing really though.
I would think typing on a net book would not be very fun though. So I would suggest a full sized laptop or a plain desktop for worrd proccessing.
Also I think that 3g is a waste unless you are really going to use it everywhere. Wifi is becoming a standard in public places. There are many public and unsecured wifi networks avalible and thats good enough for me.
