Our very favorite place to camp is Fallen Leaf Lake campground. It is located in South Lake Tahoe, but is never very crowded. Bathrooms and showers (pay showers) are always very clean. The campground itself is gorgeous. Lots of pines, aspens and Fallen Leaf Lake is one of the most stunning alpine lakes I have seen and usually there aren't any families hanging out there. It is also a great place to take kids--across the street is the Tahoe visitor center with the stream profile. South Lake Tahoe is usually crowded in the summer, but you will feel like you are off the beaten path at Fallen Leaf. We usually take our tent trailer, but the walk in sites are the prettiest if you are tent camping. Wish I was there right now...
