It’s back to school for many local kids. Cosumnes River elementary school, Katherine L. Albiani middle school, and Pleasant Grove grove high school all start school next Monday August 17th. The Elk Grove Unified School District have modify the traditional school calendar for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years. Starting this school year we will start one week earlier in August and afford a two-term model in which the first term ends prior to the winter holiday break and the second term ends prior to the Memorial Day weekend.
There was a strong interest by teachers at the secondary level to administer first semester finals prior to the winter break rather then suspending instruction, review, and the administration of final examinations after a two-week vacation. The district will be evaluating this new schedule over the next two years.
The construction of the new Cosumnes River elementary school is well underway. Check the Schools and RM Youth Forum to get the latest status. RMO has been following the construction all summer long. With school starting Monday Mr Gulden has reminded parents that construction along Jackson Highway will create distractions for drivers. He has asked that parents utilize the bus as much as possible. Parents dropping off kids are asked to use the pull-through and try to avoide crossing Jackson Highway. Here are a few recent photos.
Let us know how the first day of school goes for you.

Any indiscretions, though, between now and September 26 will be forgiven should Christian Brothers win the Holy Bowl.
So how has your first day been so far? Our has been a bit crazy. It was a bit of a challenge to wake these kids up, but that is normal for the first day of school. The plan was for my wife to do the Jr High run and I would do the elementary school run. Well that was the plan until we went to the garage with no time left and found a dead battery. Some lovely darling left the DVD player on.
Lucky for us we have good friends that gave me and my daughter a ride to CRES. My wife did make it to Jr High with 2 minutes to spare. So in the end it was not too bad. So how was your morning?
Success here!
arkugly so I could do my daily walk around the 'hood, but we were showered/dressed/breakfasted and in our car-pool friend's driveway at 6:48a! ZERO traffic on the way in, and we pulled up to KAMs at 7:20 (Young Master is in Leadership, so he had to go early to help 7th graders get around campus).
I had to get up at O
I hit Sbux, then got in front of CRES at 7:45! ZOO!!! Lots of parents taking their Little Darlings for the first day (I did it too, so I won't crab about it today, but but them on the bus, please!). Traffic crawled from the school all the way to just east of the chicken ranch!
(psssst...Matt...we usually leave here between 7:15-7:20 if you need a lift to KAMS...I drive them in every day, then head to the office...we have room for two more if you get jammed up and miss the bus or have battery probs. Call the house by 10 after and we can work it out!)
Our day was smooth. Drove the big kid to catch the bus to Pleasant Grove and got out of the south gate by 7:15 to take the little one to her first day of first grade at CRES. Don't worry, we will be sending her on the bus from now on.
Luke, Jr. was off and running to Christian Brothers with his carpool of fellow high schoolers that live out here at 6:45 a.m. with a stop at St. Francis (which he totally hates, not!) on the way.

The drawback for Dad is that I now have to stick around work until 6:00 p.m. every night so I can pick him up from football practice.
Little Miss Luke doesn't start 2nd grade at SJV until Wednesday.
Am I gonna hafta get after you too and tell you to not look 'til after 5p?
(sorry, Luke Jr. ...someday, a long time from now, you'll do the same...you just won't be able to help yourself!
It's after 5:00 p.m., Martha, and I haven't looked at Powerschool (Luke, Jr.'s version of Schoolloop) once. I must be reformed.
Mrschia - How did it go for your kindergartner? Or more appropriate, how did it go for you?
Oh Sheesh. Check out the little kids faces in the Bus windows.
